Help with Honda Sport Trunk

Just installed the Honda sport trunk and there was one thing I wasn't happy with. The rubber around the mounting spot deforms on the right side when the bracket is installed where it presses down on the rack for the side bags. I think I used the shorter spacers called by the instructions. I was thinking maybe I was suppose to trim the rubber because of the side bags but the instructions don't say to do that. I think the rubber is just defective and deforms when it is suppose to conform around the bracket. If anyone has installed the trunk please check out my pics and see if I did something wrong.
