"Chilly" is kinda subjective isent it?? My guess is that your "chilly" is my "down right cold". ..... LOL.

I did my time though. I spent a winter in Philly & on my little 500, that was like 3 years. LOL.

My thinking is that a product you use on a camera lense would be far less abrasive than tooth paste. So for the sake of running the risk of having to replace a relatively inexpensive face shield, and for the sake of the safety factor possibly gained in using the Nikon, product, I think I will give it a try.
Randy, I just have to tell you that you are a hoot! You have some keen observations and often make me laugh. I am amazed you can post as much as you do. Thanks for being on board.

I hope my post about the tooth paste was not taken the wrong way by the author. I am planning on giving this a try as well. I wasn't suggesting the abrasive in the tooth past was like 80 grit or anything but it is a polish. I have tried the shaving cream (Foam) with poor results. I will also try the shaving gel. My bets lck thus far has been with dish washing liquid, but it does leave a film that I have learned to accept.

Being the Scottie I am, I will end up using the best overall considering the price of it.

Keep the suggestions coming people. Who know, one of you out there may find the "miracle" solution.

Well, my Icon has a "fog-free" visor so I don't mess with other stuff but what about trying the goo that they sell at dive shops? I used it on my mask when snorkeling recently and it worked pretty well. BUT, it did seem to be a bit "smeary" so I can't vouch if it will be good for a MC visor application.

I have read on other forums and Motorcycle Consumer News that the Foggy is the most effective and you don't have to put anything on your shield. No responses here though.

On my old shoei the breath guard worked well, but on this new one it rubs on my nose & iritates me, which is why I took it back out again.

Ive not been able to finish up my little product test, because its been 85* here & no real fog to speak of. I dunno if thats good or bad. LOL.

You did not specify your helmet make and model...I have a Shoei RF1000. They have tight seal, and based on other owners, they love to fog up. I have tried Scott's, Zooke, some other Fog stuff I got at Cycle Gear, fog city insert....all garbage.

Dito.. been there to Jason. tried a lot of stuff. nothing really works but when you think of it why would they, they don't hinder the condition. also try breathing down wards if you can, not through thy nose. I will say Plexus visor cleaner seems to help keep it at bay a wee bit as it has a coating of sorts that doesn't let moisture adhere well, but the bottom line is nothing will really work, as it's a temperature thing with moisture in the air, put the wrong combo together and wa'la fog or in this case a visor you can't see through..

On my helmet I have a leather flap that you insert on the helmet that covers top of your nose and cheeks so your breathe doesn't reach up to the face shield. Therefore no fog!

The key to making it work is to put your helmet on with the face shield down, thoroughly fog it up by breathing heavily, and then wipe the inside of the face shield dry with the cloth. That's it. It might still fog a little bit, but it eliminates 80-90% of the problem for me.

You will have to repeat the exercise every time you clean the inside of the face shield, and occasionally even if you don't clean it.
+1 - I got mine at a ski shop for $2 and it lasted two winters. Good cheeet man.

This thread, however, is going to end up like a oil or tire rant.

I hold my breath while riding due to the stupid people all around me.
When alone, I do breathe.
+1 on the breath guard and venting. The guard keeps the hot air directed away from the shield and the venting moves it out of the helmet.
I flip up my visor at stop lights to air things out even more. I have ridden in sub freezing temps and freezing and thawing your eyeballs is only mildly harmful.

it called a breath deflector (at least I think that's the official shoei name for it) and everyone here with the rf1000 has that also and they still have the fog. mine only fogs up when I'm putting around in town so I just lift it up then when I hit the hwy I drop it back down again and it's pretty decent. A lot of times I'll wear a facemask on colder morns, though and it helps slow the breath down before it hits the shield and fogs up...

Bought a product today that helped my visor fogging issue. It's called the Respro Foggy, and it attaches directly to your helmet, more like a snug nose guard (or breath guard as Shoei calls them). It was $25 at CycleGear and so far works like a charm. The instructions said it would take a few minutes, I cussed and swore and it took ten. And as a bonus, I now look like one of those fighter pilots with their helmet masks...

FOGGY

FIGHTER PILOT

I also wear glasses, it was too cloudy today for the prescrip-sunglasses so wore the regular ones with the tinted visor. Temps started off at 48. Not the coldest, but ran about 10 miles without it, visor fogged. had to crack it open. Stopped for breakfast, attached Foggy and the rest of the day was problem free. Does make a tight fit with glasses, but the Foggy is adjustable, you just attach it further down the velcro. My concern was I had a mild cold on Friday so still had sinus issues, the Foggy has a clamp on the nose-bridge section which kinda restricted breathing through my nose. Not too big of a concern, just something to let you know about.

for those that tried or want to try the dish soap or shampoo meathod, the key is the mixture you use. I mix several drops of shampoo with a tablespoon of water. I use it on my own visor (riding in 5C/40F ) as well as on my kids hockey visors. When I get the right mixture, I only have to redo it 2 or 3 times a season.

If you do not want to do anything, but maybe spend 5 cents and get rid of all of your fog problems is simple. My dad has been riding for years and when he's not flying two up, he just keep a cut short large straw in his mouth, and he just breathes through that! It's starting to get cold now and my shield does the same, so now i pop my mini straw in my mouth (get a bendableone) and be on my way, no fog at all! Ah i love this website, everyone is so helpful and genuine!!
