Ear Pain

I've had a Scorpion EX-400 and I now have a SparX S-07. After about an hour or so of riding my left ear starts to ache. I don't think there's some padding rubbing on it as in the sparX there's nothing there to rub it. I think it just may be the residual vibration of the helmet on my head maybe? Wearing ear plugs doesn't help other than when I remove them it's painful. It's really annoying as I need about a 20 minute break every hour or so.

Any ideas or tips to try other than getting another helmet? I plan to try either an Arai or a Shoei when I get my new job sometime around christmas.

Thanks,

Is it an ear ache like an infection, or is it the muscles around the ear? Those muscles(that allow people to wiggle their ears) get strained sometimes without us knowing it due to the fact that most of us are unaware of them. If you rub the area directly behind your ear when this happens it should feel like your ear is being pulled or like you are having a cramp. The fit of your helmet can cause pressure on these muscles. Check the padding behind your ear.
If massaging these muscles or ibuprophen does not help, I am afraid a different helmet is your next option.

If it happens every time you wear the helmet, it is the helmet & your only solution is to try a different helmet. Go to a dealer & try on a bunch. There is that one helmet out there that fits you.

As a gauge to figure out what shape of head you have, head to a place that stocks Arai. Arai is the only brand on the market that has 4 different shells shapes. You don't need to purchase an Arai, but it will help you figure out what kind of head shape you have.
