New Shoei RF/XR1100 out
Just as I was starting thinking what Helmet to get to replace my still brilliant '04 XR1000 out pops a new XR1100 with some nice new features to Tempt me.
![]() " A brand new visor mechanism The XR1100 has a suction seal concept to guarantee it is completely draft free. The visor, in comparison with the XR1000, has been enlarged to give a broader field of vision and to allow for a larger pin lock visor. New ventilation system It incorporates a negative pressure system with a special extraction technology to guarantee the effective and continuous discharge of warm air, even at very low speeds. Adjustable inlet vents on the chin (with defroster), on the brow (2 vents) and on the back (4 outlet vents) make optimum climate control child's play. A special ventilation duct layout minimizes ventilation noise. Remodeled aerodynamics The aerodynamics were perfected in numerous laboratory and road tests. Sophisticated spoilers are integrated in the shell to optimise air flows, making the helmet extremely stable even at high speeds. The helmet has a low-drag design plus a compact profile that considerably reduces wind noise. New interior All interior features have been redesigned to enhance XR-1100 wearer comfort. The helmet offers a 3D centre pad which comfortably encases the head. The centre pad, cheek pads and chin strap are all detachable and washable. Just got one of these coming from a Shoei RFX.
It seems as quiet as the Schuberth S1 - I just ditched the earplugs. And the field of vision is awesome. Like someone took the blinkers off. The visor mechanism is a bit overhyped - just a little gap to help demist. |

I have noted that the field of view on my new (recently purchased) Arai Corsair is much improved over my old one.
you have far greater periphial vision which is definatly a bonus. ![]()

They are RF-1100s...not XR...or RFX.

If ou do a little research you'll find out that the S1 is excessively heavy, and extremely hard to find parts for. Hence why the are not readily available. Schuberth S1 Helmet - webBikeWorld I Hope you enjoy your new Shoei

The venting system I say is hyped because the video seems to suggest it offers some miracle, with all the springs and whatever. Basically it is a nice tight seal and allows a small gap to demist. But with gloves on I cannot get the setting right to close vs leave the demist gap, so I'm lukewarm to it. But overall, a definite recommend. |

If anyone has or get a new XR1100 can you post if the sound reduction due to new visor is true?

Yeah, I've got one.
The sound reduction is good - even very good - but not quite (in my opinion) Schuberth S1 level, or enough to throw away the earplugs. Mind you, I'm 185cm tall and using a stock windshield, so all the air hits at squarely at helmet level. Am planning to cut the stock down, so that I get the brunt of the wind in my chest instead. Maybe if you're shorter or you've already cut your screen, you might notice a more dramatic sound improvement. As I said before though, I love the helmet overall. The visor fits perfectly, the ventilation is very quiet and effective, and - the peripheral vision is so good, it should be made compulsory by law. Not to mention very light and comm-friendly. |

I am looking to get a new helmet and have done some research into the Snell/DOT/ECE 22-05 standards. I found this article that draws comparisons and contrasts all three standards. I was surprised by what I learned. Since I wear a 57cm size I think I will take advantage of the closeout prices of the Snell m2005 helmets. Seems the m2005 and m2010 standards offer little difference, but both exceed the ECE 22-05 standard. The most clear explanation in an article is linked here.

Off topic here but wanted to let you know that Zero Gravity makes a brilliant OEM sized windscreen in light smoke ( which is actually some what dark ) that looks great on the '08. At the top of the screen is a small lip that deflects airflow just over your head without having to use a touring size windscreen. Basically zero drag on head or torso. I am thrilled with mine. About $80 U.S. |

Will the visor still be interchangable between models? It made finding you visor in stock so much easier.

Cycle Gear I found has a limited supple of both the 1100 and the x12. I tried both on the other day, other than the price I could not feel any difference between the two the thing that I picked up on is the actual size of the helmet, to me the shell is larger in diameter, it has you going Hmm what's different, less the rear wing thing. it could be that when they re did the liner for more air and protection this increased the over all size, but to me it's like I don't need to be wearing a freaking bucket. Nice but that and Shoei needs to get it together with some decent designs. all they had was a couple black and silver, I was hoping to find the new Glory version. Still nothing like the smell of a new lid. ;) guess something else to look forward too with the MC show..
