Valentine One Radar Locator Mounting

As the title says, I'm interested in what mounting solutions you folks have come up with for the Valentine One radar locator.
I've been using the V1 in my car for a couple years now and I must say, its the best radar detection system I've ever used. Now, I'd like to mount it on my 1995 VFR.
I don't plan to ride much in the rain, but despite my best efforts, its clearly unavoidable. With that in mind, it seems that mounting the detector on the front fairing would be out of the question. I'd like to be able to snatch it off its mount, and perhaps stash it in my pocket should the raindrops start falling. I was thinking of trying the suction cup mounts on the inside of the windscreen. The higher the unit is mounted, the better, but I obviously won't get any REAR radar detection with that set-up (well, very little rear detection anyway). At least this way I could grab it if it starts to rain, and it will be somewhat protected by the windscreen anyway, as long as I'm moving.
So let's hear and see what you people have already done.

is a radar detector illegal in your state? they are here so I haven't given much tought to one. why not under the windshield but far enough to the front that the rain won't hit it? maybe off to the left or right? it seems like youd get about as much rear coverage that way as anywhere else. should be better than a car I would think. do you think you'll notice when it's going off?

Radar detectors are illegal in California? They are definitely ok here in North Carolina, however, our Virginian neighbors to the north do not allow them.
I'm thinking that the windshield mount is indeed the way to go at least in the short term. The V1 has a sensor that points to the rear, and with my body in the way, its probably not going to be very sensitive. Ideally, I'd have the thing mounted on top of my helmet...hah...where it would be at the highest point, with a clear view to the rear. Otherwise, having a remote sensor up front, and one in the rear would be pretty cool. There are some other detectors that use the remote sensor system, perhaps worth looking into.
As far as hearing the V1, they sell a "remote audio adapter" with the following description:

"Motorcyclist? Headphone user?
Here's a way to move V1's audio warnings anywhere you want them. Compact module has a speaker and two headphone jacks (one mini, 3.5mm; and one micro, 2.5mm). You also get remote control of all Control Knob and Lever functions including mute and computer modes; handy when you've mounted V1 out of reach."

So basically, I just plug in an earphone and I can hear the audio warnings, then look at the display to see the visual information.

I'll be sure to post some pics once I get it rigged up. For now, I'm just waiting till this cast comes off....only 2 more days !

Check out CycleGadgets.com. They have a ton of cool mounting systems for all kinds of gear including detectors. I'll probably use the windsheild mount or possibly the bolt mount for mine.
