    Re: Headlight and Tailight modulators

I have the Kison Tailblazer and Kison Pathblazer on mine and I love them. The tailblazer gets peoples attention behind me when i pull in a little break and it starts flashing. And my husband was riding it one day and was coming up to an intersection and had a feeling that a car in the opposite direction was fixing to make a left hand turn right in front of him and he flipped his brights on which kicks in the sensor to make them flash and it caught her attention cause she was starting to turn and she slammed on her breaks.

    Re: Headlight and Tailight modulators

I know that a modulating headlight always gets my attention.

I had a modulating tailight on a CB 900 and several times people behind me would yell that I had a short or something was wrong with my electrical system. So I guess it was doing its job, and getting me noticed.

Do you modulate the Hi or Lo Beam?

You modulate the high beam cause the low beam stays on all the time unless you flip the high beams on.

I have seen people modulate the low beam because it DOES stay on all the time. It definitely gets noticed.

    Re: Headlight and Tailight modulators

Modulators seem like a good idea to me, but I've seen some pretty strong opinions against them on other boards. There doesn't seem to be much doubt that they do get you noticed, but is that always a good thing? I think it is. It seems there have been a few problems with harassment by law enforcement and truckers misinterpreting the falshing headlight as an OK signal when passing. I guess it's possible but to me the pros seem to outweigh the cons.

    Re: Headlight and Tailight modulators

Well I know here in Oklahoma we cant have them on our low beams because of the fact them blinking continuesly the police would put a stop to that. So atleast when hooked on high u have the option of controling it then. But other than that none of here has been harrassed or disliked for having them.

    Re: Headlight and Tailight modulators

I have them on my front headlights....from what the manufacture states its a Federal Law NOT State that allows the use of these flasher units. Federal has more pull...
But here in Jersey I need people to see me...
Most of the time I'm not doing the speed limit and I have a hard time relaxing for the fear of a cop getting me It really makes you noticed these blinkers.
I have yet to be pulled over but its always in the back of my head.

They say it does not affect the Electrical system ...that's the question I would like answered.
Does it affect the electrical system?

    Re: Headlight and Tailight modulators

Where do you get these things? My wife thinks everyone is out to kill her when we ride. Since I ride mostly in NJ, that might not be too far off the mark.

I've looked and the only thing I can find are the led tailights on EBAY. I'm sure I don't have to tell anyone here, but the those led brake lights don't fit into any one of the 4 vehicle I've tried to install them in. The VFR uses a completely different bulb. On the other 3 bikes, the base of the bulb is too big to fit thru the opening without using a dremel to file the opening larger.

Do they carry them in bike shops? The shop I go to the most says they are illegal in NJ and they won't carry them because of this.

    Thanks

    Re: Headlight and Tailight modulators

I did a bit of research on headlight modulators:
    - They are legal (by DOT regs) in all 50 states (flashers are not legal).
    - If on all the time they can piss people off.
    - One that can be activated very quickly is good.

The Signal Dynamics unit is great. I've used it for 2 years.
    http://www.signaldynamics.com/produc...dStar/dshm.asp

It activates with a touch of the horn button on any setting. You can set it to not modulate unless you press the horn button - or you can set it to work constantly on low beams - or set it to work constantly on high beams.
By law, headlight modulators must not work when it is dark. If you have a constant modulation when it's dark that is illegal. When it's dark the SD unit will not modulate constantly but it will modulate when you touch the horn button.

It does get cagers attention. ;D
Downside: It must be spliced in and took about 2 hours start to finish.

My modulator has a light sensor that prevents the blinking in a strong shadow (underpass) and night, so highbeams are normal at night. I'll have to locate the modulator to identify the brand since it was installed when I bought my bike.

    Re: Headlight and Tailight modulators

i have a negative reply about the flashing headlight. my uncle was riding his bmw with that system though cumberland maryland a year ago. he turned his head to change lanes heading for the off ramp, and in the split second while he was looking away a lady in front of him thought he was a cop and slammed on her brakes to slow down. when my uncle turned his head back he got a view of this lady basically stopping in front of him. traffic was such that he had no out and bounced off her right rear quarter attempting to squeak by. a nasty accident ensued all because the lady thought he was a cop pulling her over. freak accident yes, but something to consider.

oops. forgot to log in before replying, so i couldn't just modify my old post.

i guess being mistaken for a cop is a lot less likely on a bright red vfr than a blue k1200 though

I figure if someone gets mad because the modulating headlight gets their attention, then they SEE me.

Here is a website for an easy plug in system. It connects directly to the two HIGH beam bulbs and is controlled by the high beam switch and daylight sensor. It is legal in ALL 50 states.

Do a web search for cheaper prices. The website here has them for the 2000 and up VFR for $700 plus shipping. I found it for $153.00 shipping free.
