Aftermarket exhaust
At the risk of being brow-beaten for bringing forward another forum I'm guessing is as hated as the oil/gas/my-generation-is-holier-than-thou forums, I really need all the opinions I can get on this one...so, here it goes.
In a few months, I would like to invest in an aftermarket exhaust for my 2007 VFR. Here are my questions: 1)How did you chose yours (if you're using an aftermarket exhaust)? 2)How can you tell what your bike is going to sound like without it being installed? If it's just too painful for you to answer, I apoligize in advance ![]() |

Staintunes sound great on a VFR, but here's a couple of clips where you can choose for yourself...

I really appreciate the response. That's really nice of you to help me out like that. Be careful, though...I think you're making some of the other senior members jealous. See, you're supposed to deride me for not bringing something new to the forum. Seriously, thank you for setting an example that will hopefully result in better treatment for the freshmen posters around here. When I grew up into a senior member, I want to be just like you...a real American hero "Here's to you, Mr. Senior poster guy..." |

Not another exhaust thread! How could you! The nerve...
There. Consider your brow beaten.... I expect that I'll eventually get a slip-on of some kind, but my biggest concern is more clearance for my soft luggage. Now THAT's pitiful, is it not? |

Right here in our own modifications section is a selection of soundclips as well.
Exhaust sound clips I have added these vid clips to that thread to make them easier to find for others. Thanks for posting those R.W. |

I have the stock pipes on mine BUT, as soon as I get my tax check, that will be the fist thing I'll buy. I made up my mind for some chrome Leo Vince's. Found a deal for 498.00 with free shipping.

I just ordered Staintunes yesterday.
I should have them next week.. I know all of the aftermarket exhaust probably sound good, but I just like the look of the staintunes better. Seems to fit the bike better. Seems like a few of them stick out to far. |

Get Staintunes. I notice the 1hp difference on every ride.

Exhaust cans threads just don't provoke passionate (irrational) responses here like the the oil/Generation/octane threads. I like the Staintunes and the Leo Vinces, but 'ya know it's all good. I picked LV because I wanted carbon fiber cans. Those Staintunes look pretty and sound great, too. If wringing every smidgen of performance out of the bike with a PCIII is a consideration, you should know that I had to use the DynoJet Staintune map with my Leop Vince's because DynoJet doesn't have a special map for the LVs. I bet I could eek out another 2-3 HP with a custom map, but it runs really great! No flat spots and the low-RPM throttle response is very smooth. More HP across the board, I guess. The Staintunes are built incredibly well and can be repacked. They cost more, too. Have fun! Either one is more fun than stock IMHO, although I know that some here like the stock exhausts veddy much! Me, I know the performance gains are modest, but the bike sounds better than my brother's Ducatis now.

I ordered the CF Remus cans, the PCIII, O2 sensor eliminators, and the K&N filter yesterday. I'll post again after the install and let everyone know the processes involved in the install, and the differences in sound and powerband. I'm mainly hoping to get a much better thump in the sound of the bike, and a smoother overall powerband. The bike feels a little sluggish in the below 5K range, nothing like my old 'carb'd' 87 VF with supertrapps. :) The response after VTEC is great!

my biggest concern? cost. i really can't fathom how an exhaust for a bike can run you in the neighborhood of $1000 when all is said and done (not including any sort of header). car systems 3 times the complexity and 4 times the amount of material cost half as much!!!
so, when i found a used system for dirt cheap, i listened to a few sound clips online, then pulled the trigger. no regrets yet!! Mike |
