Just ordered the Aumen Plug-In Gear Indicator from Riderstation.com. I've searched and can't find where someone has a detailed report on how the install went for the 6th Gen VFR I purchased the "Plug n Play" version so it shouldn't be that hard. Biggest headache will be getting to the back of the panel to plug in the harness. Not sure what all I'll have to remove.
After I install it, I'll post some pictures/write up of the install process.
No more searching for the elusive "7th" Gear!!

I know I'm in 6th when it's 75 mph at 5K rpms......haven't tried for 7th since the second day I rode it. I hope it works out for you - it won't be too bad to get to the back of the meter panel. Good luck with your install.
Norcal appreciate it. I'm a sucker for gadgets, so I think it'll look sharp on the dash.

I can understand the convenience factor. I can't wait to see the completed project. Get on with it now, and post up the pics!I shouldn't be too pushy about the pics, I'm a little slow in that regard lately....
I haven't found the need for one on the VFR, but you're right, it is a neat gadget. Now, if they made one for my ACE, that would be great because it needs a 6th gear bad, so bad I'm always looking for it.
Just signing up to watch the thread. I was just thinking about getting one the other day......
now....... do as NorCal says..... and get on with it !![]()
Will do guys. Just waiting on the delivery.
Since it's rainy here, I plan removing the fron fairing to access the rear panel so when it arrives, there is nothing but air & opportunity to plugging it in!

Looks like a cool gadget, looking froward to the install.

Received a call from Riderstation today that the plug in harness for the VFR 800 was on back order!!!!!
So, it looks like my plans will be delayed by about a week.

Wow that stinks. I was looking forward to hearing an install update. I was considering one of them too.

"hanging by a thread".........................GOOD ONE!!!!!!!
cool do they have the throttle percentage guage or a brake percentage guage that would be cool guess the next cool guage would be a tire guage on dash oil change interval guage the guage guage it really cool love that one..

I can't help but laugh at that guage overload post. Maybe we need a guage to determine how accurate a guage is. Like the speedometer, I know mine's not 100% accurate so we can have a guage that shows how much % off mine is at a given time.
Or a body fat index guage for those on a diet or even a bodily fluids guage so you know when to pull over and drink up a cold one!
Now, excuse me while I install a fishfinder guage, you never know I may crash into the water and feel like![]()
Knife I do like that setup. Try calling Riderstation (acumen dealer) or sending them a e-mail. The two times I've dealt with their customer service it's been great. At least maybe they can tell you point in the right direction. Goodluck.

I am certain that every bike I have, or have had, has at least one extra bonus overdrive gear. Sooner or later I'll find them...
Does that indicator go up to "7"?
OK Guys...Update.
Received an e-mail today that it's been shipped. As soon as it arrives (Hopefully this week), I'll be happy as a little boy running barefoot through a field of titties.

OK Guys. What you all have been waiting for. Gear Indicator came in today, and I was immediately on it. Lets begin.........
Please keep in mind this is for a 6th Gen Version.
First of all, the Gear Indicator comes with no install instructions. Instructions included are for programming the Indicator. So it's best to have access to a service manual. Thanks to VFR world, I had access to the downloaded version.
1. Remove the two plastic trim pieces on on each side of the instrument panel. (2 hex screws and one plastic on each side).
2. Remove the two trim pieces that hold the wind screen. (One phillips head and on hex screw on each side). Remove wind screen.
3. Now the tricky part that gave me a fit and resulted in numerous cuss words. Removing the Center Panel (gauge cover). There are two visible plastic screws on the front. What you can't see unless you look up underneath, is that there are two boss/grommets which you must gently pull out to release the panel. Again there is one on each side. I finally had to take a very small scew driver and push from the bottom to release. Again, be gentle. It's all plastic.
4. With the center panel off, you'll have easy access to the wiring harness that plugs into the back of the instrument panel. Unplug, and plug supplied wiring harness into rear of panel, and the factory harness will plug into the other end of the supplied harness. It's then just a matter of placing the gear indicator where you want it, and putting it all back together.
5. Programming was pretty easy to follow using the supplied instructions. The blue display on the gear indicator is pretty cool. Once programmed it works like a charm. For neutral you have a choice between n, N or 0.

Nice write up. Easy to see. Are you going to leave it on the triple clamp or mount it somewhere else?
Good Question. I tried different spots on the meter panel, but I could NOT find a good spot for it to mount correctly. Every time I did find a spot, I found that when you turned the hard right or left, the cables would hit it.
So, reluctantly I mounted it on on the triple clamp.
I wish I could find some pictures of the acumen mounted on other vfr's but I couldn't.
