How not to wash the vffer

On a ride on the weekend had a bit of a mishap. Long story shortened with photos, had to avoid the potholes to the left (coming downhill from the left of pic)which sent me to the gravel and concrete embankment from which when trying to recover back to the road was sent on a ride like going round a motor x berm ending up the in the river, then the fun begins with some assistance from fellow riders when they were sure I wasn't injured, very cold and wet as it is still end of winter and we were heading up into the mountains, photos taken and they could control their laughter. After all the fun of recovering the bike after being submerged for about 15 mins, we drained exhausts removed air box and filter drained alot of water from there, time to fire her up which to eveyones surprise it did after a bit of coaxing, idle rough for awhile but steadied to some normality but still not right, after warming it up letting it sit then doing it again I had to mount and ride it 50kms back to town where i changed the oil for the ride home at a steady pace with no further major incidents, after a couple more oil changes over the weekend went to start it to take to the mechanics today to no avail sounds like well on the way way to seizing. looks like the END. But what to do get another or wait for the new model. SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS (hope this works)

oh man, I feel your pain! I did almost the same thing once, except lowsided into a tide creek and the bike flipped two or three times shedding parts on the way, in the dark! When I finally found it, it was by the headlight shining underwater. Needless to say it was totalled. Please forgive me but I did laugh at your pics, if for no other reason then I've been there. Glad you made it through relatively unscathed. Wonderful pics! I can't believe it actually started and ran.

Man, you are one lucky soul. Looking at those pix, there are at least a dozen things that could have, lets say, terminated you. The wire fence alone will decapitate you. I'll bet your arse just puckered up and took a huge bite out of the seat on that one. Good to hear you had to pick up the bike. Otherwise we would have been saying someone else picked up the bike because you could not.

Careful there friend. ANd after the pain of loosing a bike, isn't the excitement of getting a new on great. Post up when you get the new one.

If you are OK then I say SMILE Bikes can be fixed. But I know what you are thinking and do understand.

Holy cow, you are extremely lucky not only to survive it but to start it back up and ride back home! If anything, you could part out your bike and recover some of the costs, that is for the parts that aren't damaged like the seat, exhaust pipes, etc... I'd recommend getting a good hair dryer though before attempting to sell.

Wowie Zowie.
What a ride that must have been.
I would go ahead and get an 08. No way to know when the new one will hit the shelves. You do not want a first model year anyway.

I would have that last pic for my avatar already. Hee hee.

Hopefully that guy has a good sense of humor about it... I can just see a caption contest coming up. "The first attempt at building an amphibious VFR failed miserably"

Man, that is insane! I am very glad you are ok! Thanks a lot for sharing the pictures! So, to the best of your knowledge, how did you land in the water? Did the bike drop straight down like a rock, and you departed and landed to the side? Did your feet/bodyhelmet hit the bottom of the rock?

Man, this picture says it all! We need that in the VFRworld calender! "How to tame a VFR!" You have to bring it into the water and break it in just like a horse!

As a funny caption note (don't know your name, so making one up)...... "friends always questioned Bob's unusal break-in ritual"....or "The VFR whisper!"

Names Andy thanks for the concern and humour it goes along way to aid the recover of such a huge loss, and yes there is a bite mark in the seat and can still hear the expletives echoing in my helmet

Glad we didn't lose a member, too many ways that could have happened. Those must have been some big a$$ potholes to dodge so agressively. Glad your OK Andy.
