VFR800FI Torque

Hey guys & gals!!!

I checked the Honda web site, performed a search on Google & another in here but haven't been able to find an answer to my question.

Does anyone know the actual VFR maximum engine torque rating in FtLBs @ XXXX RPM???

A local dealer has a beauriful low miles 2006 at a decent price and I'm really tempted but being 6'1" @ 300ish I just want to get an idea of the pull she'd offer.

The dealer is selling it for a "good customer" who moved up to an ST & who has had all of the required service performed there but they're not entertaining the idea of a test ride even though I're ridden for years and even recently took the MSF course just to refresh my returning skills.

I really want a bike I can get into weekenders on and the 800 with a decent size tank & hard bags seems perfect...not too small...not a hog either.

Please advise.

Here you go. There is an obvious typo on the '05....the hp and torque are bassackwards.

Welcome! I'm 6'5" and weigh about 255 and I think the VFR has decent torque for an 800. Your problem is going to to be the suspension. If you plan on doing some spirited riding you are going to want to at least up grade your springs. Don't get me wrong, you'll be able to ride it fine. Its just when you start pressing it in the turns it won't feel as stiff as you want. Otherwise it sounds like a VFR is what your looking for.

I'm a big boy at 6'3 and 300 pounds and I love my new 07. Heaps of power. The comment about the springs is a fair one though.

Buddy, walk on over to the manager of that bike shop and ask him or her if they feel like selling a bike today ? After the obvious answer, insist that you are hype to buy this particular bike, but as with any big ticket vehicle, you need to test drive it first. (I do understand not test riding NEW bikes, but a few extra miles on a used bike should not be an issue).

I am responding to your thread because just last week I called a dealer about test riding a used Ducati and the salesman simply asked when I wanted to come over and take her for a good 1/2 hour ride to get a good feel for the bike.

Choosing a bike based on data is a good comparator to other bikes, but you really should test ride !!! I wish I had...

Odd they won't entertain a test ride.

Sometimes it depends on the size of the shop. If they are a medium to small cycle shop they probably don't carry enough insurance to allow people to ride any sportbikes. One of the larger shops in my area will allow test rides on brand new $12-14,000 cruisers, but not one on a $5-9,000 sportbike.

And as for the torque, as the other riders can attest, the VFR will probably be perfect for what you are wanting to do. Good luck!

Excellent point about dealership insurance.

A few hours ago I test rode an 05 Ducati ST3 with 4000 miles, which proved to be a valuable experience in terms of expectations. I am shocked how the Bremo brakes felt like wood, with much less feel than on my 06 VFR. The salesman even warned me to apply brakes earlier than what I am used to on my VFR...as he pointed out that the VFR brake set up is superior.
Torque was much less than I had expected, and the suspension, set at mid range, was much softer than the VFR at mid range. (partly due to a more cushy seat on the ST3). I did not walk away from my test ride the way I had expected at all.
This is whay it is sooo important to test ride, in my opinion.
Perhaps you know of another dealership not too far away that could provide a test ride. If not, the VFR is a very well balanced bike that has been improved & refined over many years, so the odds are in your favor of being happy should you choose this bike.

Hmmmm i never did get a chance to ride the ST3 but it was a strong contender to the VFR before my purchase.
Intresting to hear your take on it. and vey good example of why you should test ride.
