Life's a B*tch

Hi,

Just had to get this off my chest. Less than 700 miles on my '07 & a screw gets driven into my basically new (except for sitting) rear tire. Now I gotta find a rear to go with my MEZ4A front. Murphy has 'rear ended' me :^(.

Oh well ...

Your info doesn't say where your at, but if your near a Cycle Gear, get the tire through them. They are the only ones I know of that offers road hazard warranty. I have used it myself, and it instantly pays for itself.

If it isn't in the sidewall, unmount it, use a mushroom plug, remount it, and ride.

Yea, See "if" a plug can get you by, I'm running on a plugged tire as we speak, it's not the first time either, I have never had any ill effects with plugged tires one just needs to know whats what, trick here is finding someone that knows and will do it. Sorry to hear this

Plugging a motorcycle tire isn't the smartest thing to do. Is $100-$200 too much money to pay for you and your bikes safety? Just buy a new tire.

Thanx folks. I did actually plug the tire to check out my stop/go kit prior to some road trips I'm planning. This appears to have worked acceptably well for around town. I also ordered a new rear tire before reading these posts so no road hazard, but I'll get by :^). Never had a nail/flat on my '84 in 50K miles, go figure.

1500 miles and a nail in my rear Mez4 tire. Replaced both tires with pilot powers 2ct, best thing I have done so far. They ride so much better than those rim protectors it came with.

Where the heck do all these screws and nails come from anyway? They should have some screw/nail ID system so when we run them through our $200 tires we know where to send the bill.

This may be a blessing in disguise. I think that the ME4's leave much to be desired in my opinion. The rear ME4 tire has a habit of stepping out, and I hated the way they rode and cornered. I got rid of the OEM ME4's on my 2007 VFR800A after only 800 miles, replaced them with Michelin Road Pilot 2CT's, and I couldn't be happier. The difference is like night and day. The 2CT's bring out the best in the VFR. After replacing the ME4's with the 2CT's, it's like I'm riding a totally different motorcycle.

plug works fine thenfill it with slim be ok do it many times and topped bike out 150 mph no problems.. but if you are a rich man and 200 bucks doesn't bug you replace it. but plugs work they are designed for cars weighing 3000 pounds a 400 pound bike is no pressure for them good luck and I just farted..

*NEVER* put fix a flat in a tire -- motorcycle or car. That stuff is basically acid, and will destroy both the tire and the wheel.

Plugging it (or pulling the tire off the wheel and doing an internal patch/plug repair) is a better option, but it does compromise the speed rating. I've never had a blowout riding a plugged tire for 10k+ miles, but if you're constantly over 100mph it might not be worth the risk.
