My top speed on my 5th Gen Yellow VFR is140mph (on the speedometer) - so It really depends on how accurate the speedometer is on the VFR. Bike was steady and felt good - I was on a smooth highway straightaway with a group of other riders. I was just trying to keep up with the group. That is my top speed on any bike I have ridden. No fish stories here either.

I had a 2000 model that went over 160 on the speedo, at 5,000 ft elevation and there was more to go, just not with me on it in a field near barbed wire fences... My 2005 has seen 147 on the speedo with saddle bags loaded with camera gear and clothing... More to go there too...
Honestly things do start to change after 120/130. Up to 115 I think these bikes ride like a car at 70 on the highway. You start seeing 135+ and at some point you must realize you are now doubling the national speed limit and everyone is going MUCH slower and the road gets very short.

I got 145mph on the clock with speedo healer verified with gps. I changed my gearing to 15/45 so I figure I can get 155-160 before the rev limiter hits. Its not the speed that scares me its a CDL and cops

High 130s indicated, not WFO.
I do need to put my handheld GPS on peak MPH mode and let 'er rip sometime.

Well when you live out in bumfuk near an interstate with almost no traffic and open fields all around I don't worry about it too much. On a clear day and a open shot I usually go for it.

On our ride yesterday we had a few open stretches- My 2003 with PCIII and Leo slip on, down a tooth in front- after about a mile wide open flat ground I could only muster 149 on gps. I was pissed as there was plenty of revs left just no power to pull any more- I did get to weigh me on my bike too and it was 827 loaded down and I am 300# so this holds the speed down some. I went around my buddy on his 07 speed triple at about 135 but then he caught up again. I thought I would walk away from him but was wrong.

My 86 750 hit 124mph (GPS) last Thursday on County Road 5-14 in Oregon fully loaded with tank bag and Venture Pack system. I still had some roll in the throttle left. That was fast enough for me. She has 45K miles on her and still flies.

My 99 I've only gotten up to about 130 but when I had my 86 750 I got it up to roughly 165-167 and didn't really have any throttle left. That was in optimum conditions on a straight peice of highway at 3am with absolutely no traffic. The 86 was about 14yrs old when I did it.

I used to have an 86vfr700F got it up to 135mph this year (not bad for 21 year old bike). On that bike I was a little leary
because it felt like 200. Maybe thats why I don't really feel the speed on the 07, because its fn smooth and more stable feeling at vfr warp speed.![]() |

You guys are making me feel bad. My top speed has been 86 mph!! But I've only had my 02 for three weeks. If I come home with a speeding ticket the kids and wife well let us say it would be bad.
So I'm looking for a quiet spot now!! Joe |

Had my sixth gen on a 250 model dyno and it indicated a near linear +10% error (actual/indicated mph: 20/22, 40/45, 60/67, 80/88, 100/111). I just fitted a speedo healer and corrected it w/ a factor of -9.1%. I have stock gearing BTW.
My TL1000R is about 7-8% high...most bikes seem to be high 5-10%. I only briefly read thru the thread and i'm not sure if anyone mentioned the speedo healer. The unit features a top-speed memory which is neat if you care to see your max speed ever hit. |

145 Here on my 07 25th with what felt like plenty more to go. You got to love the 90 to 95MPH spot where the second set of valves kick in & the next thing you see in the blink of an eye is 125 and more!

My 1000F is like that. I've looked down at 120mph and the next glance shows 140mph. And from there it just keeps going til you hit redline!

I use a camelback since then, & don't take a race prepped bike with a plate on a trip any more lawyer covinced the judge they really never clocked me, & that the Helicpter , by the pilots admittance didn't follow the road & was off to the side. Charges with a hefty fine, was down sized to 86 in a 55 zone speeding ticket (no wreckless), & got traffic school , but had to go court order double the required amount & 12 hrs community service. kept my Lic., & no increase on my Insurance. That bike stayed track only after that ![]() |

My former teammate and have done that with our racebikes. You know, to make sure they're running ok..... We had his out for a break-in run, I had truck duty, we're letting it cool of on the side of the road (way out in the boonies, where there's never a cop) with the truck blocking the bike and who should drive up but a sheriff. He gets out and asks if everything is OK, we tell him we're just relaxing and taking a break. He walks around the truck to the bike and mentions that the bike doesn't have any mirrors, no signals and the tires are bald, and "What the hell? Your headlights are DRAWN on!"
Tells us that technically he could have the bike towed, but since he didn't actally see the bike on the road, we should just load it up and take it home. Which we did, in a roundabout way. Had to get more time on the motor!![]()

I have 2nd generation ´89 model original bike and have hit 225 km (140 mph) it should do more. Honda says 235 (147 mph) I also have ´88 model and that one hit 245 km (153 something) and it has k&N air filter better pips (4in1) and bit lower gearing so it could rev out al six gears.
