Actually being down a tooth in the front sprocket increases your torque. I'm down one tooth at the moment. now that being said, over the winter I'm considering going to stock to increase the fuel mileage, but not sure yet.

Plenty of punch with being down a tooth, but there's a BIG gap between 1st and 2nd, and I about always lurch there. (disclaimer: this may be due to the fact that I'm still a NOOB rider)

you can always go +2 or +3 on rear for same effect.

I don't know how aggressively you ride, or how finicky you are about your chassis setup, but the sprocket selection doesn't just effect the final drive ratio. Sprockets also effect the path the power takes to the rear wheel. As the upper chain line changes with respect to the swingarm pivot, so does the tendency for the bike to squat or jack under accelleration.

No need to adjust the chain to go down 1 on the front, I have stock length chain on mine and I'm down the 1 tooth in the front. Still have plenty of adjustment available.

changing gearing does not increase torque!! the engine will have the same power no matter what gears you have on itbut a lower or higher gear will either rev out faster due to less revolutions or slower due to more to get the max out of each gear in the trans example raise 3 on back instead of 60 in first now 55 raise one on front now 65..the bike is geared as it should be if you can pull redline hit the revlimiter in 6th gear then you can drop on back if not raise on back.....go try it if you don't believe me ..........good luck

Actually, you should notice the effects more so in 2nd gear then in first.

I dropped one in the front and am very happy with it. I am not going back to stock anytime soon.

I dropped one in front on my 02 when I replaced the chain a couple of months ago. Definitely revs up quicker, which is especially nice in 1st and 2nd gear, where I felt the bike kind of lagged unless I was very hard on the throttle. Haven't noticed a great deal of lose in mileage, but haven't honestly tracked it that much. Not worried about losing 5 or 10 mph on top end either.

Go for it. You can always change it out easily if you don't like it, and the sprocket will only set you back $25-$35 depending on manufacturer.

my 2 cents...I did it with my 05, made it as quick as my 00 and easy to do the smooth roll on wheelie.

Even better was it raised the rpm a bit and made the slow first gear intersection corners much easier as it got over a bit of that $%^%^efi glitch with the bit higher rpm. Never noticed any downside it at all on the highway and mileage...You will notice the pickup right away tho...My top end diidnt change as it never pulled redline in hi anyway..probly faster now on most conditions as it will pull it better...downside is my chain only lasted 15,000 km...was it the sprocket or me? I dunnoo.??....but since you dont need another chain, its dirt cheap to try it....if you really like it, next time u get a chain, go up on the rear with stock front instead..will last longer i would guess..(maybe) :)

if i bring hom,e another 6th gen I will gear it down again...

I have a 15T sprocket sitting on my counter and staring at me. I've been patiently awaiting the arrival of my speedo healer before making the switch (should be tomorrow or Monday).

On a difficulty level of 1 to 10, where 10 being the hardest, what would the rating be to do the conversion yourself?

    where

If you have the tools you need I would give it a 1.Where did you get your sprocket? I just got off the phone with parts wizard (not really a wizard..more of a jester) and he was certain no one made a 15th front.

From 1 to 10, I would say 1 or 2. It can all be done in an hour or two if you take your time have a shop manual and a small metric socket set. It also will help to have a helper to remove the fairing without scratching it :)

ya as far as mods go it is pretty easy. I do not remember any real hangups. Hands will get a bit greasy though. Chances of lots of blood are pretty low.

they are available anywhere for that bike, check any aftermarket bike parts place....in fact I usedthe 15t on my 05 and a 16 on my 00 from my old cb parts pile. any 80-83cb750f-900f-1100f front sprocket works and they are everywhere.
    good luck

I think Sprocket Specialists goes down to a 12 tooth before having to make a totally custom order lol..... look around.
