Cam driven cams have two advantages.

First and most important is reliability, Gear driven cams never need adjustment so the chain cam adjuster isn't required and I've never heard of a GDC failure on a VFR.

Have heard of Cam chain failures on the VTec although thankfully they are very rare and the cam adjuster is apparently not too hard to change. Honda modified the design with longer runners in 2003 to make them more reliable.

2nd character. GDC just sound so very cool. Love the sound they make on my occasional low speed commute to work or when I hear a GDC VFR coming towards me from the side of the road, of course a Gen 6 still has the VFR magnificent V4 Growl and doing distance makes no difference as I wear ear plugs.

They should just stick a V-Max motor into a VFR frame and body. Those motors scream. That would be a mean machine.

A friend of mine that I work with has a V-Max. Its an '85 or '86. Your right it does scream. Except its been worked on. Nitrous, air shifter, removed the cross induction servos, and wheelie bars. It runs low 9's at the strip. Its a Monster.

I drive a VF1000f and I love it

I kinda wish it were a little lighter and had a 6th gear but the acceleration
is smooth, she's got more than enough power, and the exaust rumble is something to be proud of.

But I would transfer to a CBR1100XX Blackbird if I could find one for a reasonable price just for the fact it doesn't weigh 900+ lbs and it's sleeker looking.

I would go for a 1000 VFR it would solve my debate between the speed triple and the VFR. The Blackbird is a great looking bike but would it be as comfortable on the long hauls as a VFR is the question that would concern me.

I think we have a member who rode a blackbird. I believe he said it was about the same comfort, but the bird was a tad slower through corners and walked away coming out. I think it's a very capable bike. I dunno what the insurance diff would be,, though. Of course, I haven't ridden the new VFRs which are maybe a bit more comfortable... Mine works well enough for me and it's paid for which I likes...

NO. I like being under the liter insurance bracket. I also enjoy the current power although imay get the 870 kit for my VFR, if I keep it.

If I wanted a bike the was a great SPORT-tourer and a liter or better it would have been a Blackbird. VFR Bars and Buell pegs and you basically have a VFR with 130 to 140 RWHP. The engine is smoother, dual counterbalancer does that and pulls like a freight train. Not quite as good in the twisties but with a little fork and shock work that's fixed.

How much is that 870 kit and does it make a big difference? I liked the Blackbird too, but I don't think I could have thrown into into corners like this one...

There's nothing up. Gear driven cams is one of the reason why we love our older VFR's so much. Very much more efficient, zero wear, no need for adjustment, but mainly, they sound AWESOME. That delicious whine from a VFR engine is the gears driving the cams!

We don't want our bikes quieter, thank you, Mr Greenie!

If they build this...
http://www.motorcyclenews.com/nav?pa...NEWS_NEW-BIKES
I think I WILL buy one (even if I have to sale mine to help get it)

It doesn't look good though... since they discontinued the cbr1100xx I don't think this one is going to make it to the market.

So I will just stick to what I have and maybe look into one of those new 07 RW&B Interceptors and go on from there

Did they discontinue the Blackbird for 07 in Europe & Australia? I thought they were still available to everyone except in the States...

I know you can't get a new one here in the us.
I don't know about europe or down unda :)

Be nice if you can maybe you could get a new one shiped here for your riding enjoyment...

Although after riding a 1000 for the last year or so I can see why they quit building them. They are far to heavy. Powerful. but 935lbs is a bit much for a superbike. if they would build one with todays tech and keep the carbs, gear drive cams, and keep a rugid look to it I would buy one ,no prob.

Someone actually put a 1984 VF1000F motor into a 1984 VF750F frame and rides it on the street and he has some mods on it also...I just wish i could find that link.....Oh well , yes I would buy a New 1000 VFR if it didnt have VTEC , and had gear driven cams and wet weight was 520lbs, and had exhaust set up like the 98-01 VFR as under seat exhaust to me is ugly..

If Honda dont bring back the gear driven cams then i will just ride my 99 until it wont go no more and then i will have to buy a used 86--01 VFR...

Been there done that owned one. Here are my thoughts.

I came off of a 87 VFR700 onto a 86 VF1000R both had the cam gear drive, however the VF1KR is a brute it weighed almost 200 LBS more than the VFR and was not as nimble in the handling department. Top power wise the VF1KR dynoed in at around 122hp and the VFR came in at about 86 hp The increased power feel was offset by the added weight. In retrospect I had wished I kept the 700 as I viewed the "upgrade" a mistake.

Spin forward a few years and I traded the VF1KR in on a Blackbird, More power more comfort but I did not have it long enough to comment otherwise.

Having had many bikes I think i would go for the VFR800 6th Gen for more long distance riding vs. sport riding. otoh if I wanted the more sport vs tour riding, I would opt for the 5th Gen VFR 800. If I had my rathers I would thoguh own a VFR750 (Circa about 91.)

Hmmmm...

I`d really have to think about it. I wouldn`t buy anything new out there right now. I`d be tempted with a V4 or V5 that has the same purpose of the RC51 though. Hard to justify $10-25k when I already have the bike I want...

It all depends on how it is configured. I really like my 4th Gen and the features it has. However if Honda made the alleged VFR 1000, I would be interested if it had certain features like some of the previous members here have stated. Upside down forks with radial brakes, as well as radial clutch amd brake master cylinders would be a must. A slipper clutch would be desirable also. Hopefully Honda wouldn't neuter the motor, or add Vtec. I want raw power that is accessable. I had a chance to ride my friends MV Agusta this past weekend, and it was eye opening in certain aspects. I really liked the 1/4 turn throttle, and the way the motor seemed to pull hard from almost any RPM. I actually preferr the 954 brakes on my VFR, but that's just user preferrence. I definately like the ergos of the VFR better!!! But the Agusta is built purely for performance, and I'd like the VFR 1000 to have more of a sport oriented side to it. To me the 6th Gens seem to diluted. The 5th Gens are good all around bikes as are the 3rd and 4th Gens. My VFR seemed to inspire more confidance in the handling dept compared to the Agusta ( not my comments, that came from my friend after he rode my VFR) He also stated that the way my VFR is set up, it just falls into a corner with little though or effort, and is rather flickable for being portly compared to his MV. I am setting up my VFR for more perforamnce and it would be nice to have a VFR that is already set up like this from the factory. Honda has the parts and technology to make this happen, we'll see what they do. If they put a VFR motor in a CBR frame with a SSS, I'd defiantely be interested!!!

I love my 07 VFR more and more for each km I ride. I really can "do it all".

But 1000cc would give it a bit more bottom end grunt, which would be nice;)

So, yes I would..
