Cooling Fan

I have a 04 VFR and the cooling fan wont come on,is there a fuse for it and where is it located or could it be burnt out???

Have you let it get hot enough? It won't come on until about 220F.

i had the same problem the other day with my 04 VFR. the fan normally comes on ~ 223F for me, but on that day, it wouldn't come on at all.

the fuse box is under the right-hand inner panel (the little panel cover beneath the right-hand grip).

i checked each fuse and found each to be continuous. the fan worked again after i reseated the fuses. perhaps i scraped off a little oxide growth during removal and reinstall. alternatively, my bike may have been spooked by my attempt at repair and elected to behave rather than suffer further troubleshooting.

I didnt let it get to 220 it only got to about 215.I know that 210F is boiling point, so i shut it down...I didnt wanna cause any damage ! So should i wait till it hits 220f is this ok for the engine ???

212F is the boiling point for "unpressured" water at "sea level"....since your cooling system is "pressured" it can go well past that....antifreeze also increases the boiling point of water as well. I would not shut it down unless it went past the high 230's and showed no signs of cooling down. The fan doesn't even kick on until 215F (forgot exact temp) or so.

The moral of this story....don't shut your bike off at 215, or 220, or even 230, unless it is heading up with no signs of cooling off from the fan. Then you might have another problem....fan not coming on, stuck t-stat, bad coolant (too old), bad fan stat, bad/leaking radiator cap....etc. My bike has never went past 228F.....normally, it doesn't go past 221F or so even on a hot day in slow traffic.

Yes, there is a fuse for the fan, but also there is a fan stat that can go bad as well. I would start with the fuse, and go from there if it is not coming on.

Your fan won't come on until it gets near 220-225. Engine won't be damaged until 250 or more. My '07 owners manual says the bike will shut itself off shortly after 250 to prevent any damage.
