Good Deal???

So I'm new to this forum, i've been over at Two Wheel Forum for a couple months, but now I'm looking into getting a VFR and I thought it would be a good idea to get in with you guys on the VFR forum. I currently drive a 94 XR 250L. I've had it for 4 years and i just need a bigger bike. I read up alot and the VFR seems like a bike that will truly fit my needs. I found a 2001 with 38,000 miles on it and i talked the guy down to 3600. Seems like a pretty good price to me. From what i read the 5th gen (no v-tech) is the way to go, plus its cheaper. I'm gonna run a check on the VIN to see if it checks out. Any input guys?

Welcome clemson. You will get as many different answers on generation preference as there are stars in the sky my friend. Mostly it is a personal preference on what look that you like the best really, and if you like the idea of the cam chain driven VTEC, as opposed to the gear-driven whine of the other gens. I have a 5th gen, and I perfer the looks and sound of the engine over a 6th gen. That is just my preference though.

Do make use of the "search function" up top and you will find lots of info on each generation VFR. Lots of info available at your fingertips on here.

Where are you located?

The 5th gen is well loved.
Many 6th gen owners wish they had a 5th instead

I live in bucks county PA, but for the majority of the year i'm at school in Clemson SC. As far as looks go, i would go for the 5th or 6th, but i did alot of research and i don't think i want the v-tech; plus i found the 5th gens to be more in my budget range. I was more curious if 3600 was about an average price. Bikes in really good shape, im just wondering if the miles are a little high. It seems about right to me, 38k on a 2001.

Well, out in SD, CA, I bought my '98 (5th gen) for $4600 in Nov 06. Came with aftermarket exhaust, and givi luggage though. $3600 sounds like a good deal if the bike is in good shape. 38k is nothing for a VFR. The biggest thing to me would be how the prior owner treated it. Sometimes you can get a vibe from people by just talking to them.

is the SD sunny dale? my dad goes out there all the time on buisness... any ways, i got a good vibe from the owner, he seemed to treat it pretty well, and its pretty much stock except for a Sargent seat and custom paint.

Sounds like a very good deal to me if the bike has been taken care of, even with a couple cosmetic things its still a good deal. only you can get the vibe, but over all you can't go to wrong by the sounds of it. Buy it soon before some one else does, obviously he doesn't know what he has.

I concur if the bike looks good you should go for it. I have 6th Gen that I truly love. But I want one of those yellow 2000 VFRs. I will have one one day. I will accept donations to the fund too. LOL.
Seriously, CHeck the bike out check the oil, is it clean? coolant hows it look full dirt on the bike? mine almost never goes to bed with dirt on her. 100000 miles on a V-four is nothing provided it has been taken care of properly.
