Rider of EX500 first posting here

Hi, I'm currently riding a Kawasaki EX500 in So. Cal. and considering getting a VFR. Have been looking for a 94 - 97. I here these were particularly good. I've heard the carbs are difficult to get in/out so maybe I should look for a fuel injected model. Any way, hello VFR World

Hey thanks,

I updated my profile. I'm in Granada Hills (north San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles.) I have lived previously in San Diego (Mission Valley, Pacific Beach, Clairemont, and Hillcrest.) I was considering a 1996 with 16,000 miles from a reliable source in the midwest but it would have cost me around $650 to get it here so the deal went south. After cleaning the carbs on my EX500 the other day I'm rethinking the wisdom of getting a carbureted V4 and might start looking for a 98 - 01 instead. The braking system is also appealing. I'm not in a particular hurry. I only have 1800 miles on my EX and it makes sense for me to get a little more road time before I move up. I primarily use the bike for commuting 70 miles a day round trip.

Coolio! I live in Bayho right now (between Clairemont and PB). Sounds like you used to be my neighbor.

I hear you about buying a bike out of state and shipping it, it can be very expensive, and a bear to get it to you in the same condition. I would be too scared to do that, although some on this site have done just that.

I own a 5th gen ('98) and I love it. Gotta love the sound of those gear driven cams! The latter 5 gens ('00-'01) have auto-choke/fast idle if that interests you more so.

Yes, The 2000 is the bike for you. Many people like many generations of the VFR for many reasons. The fuel injection, linked brakes, auto choke/cold start, YELLOW paint job, geardriven cams all came together to be too good to pass up.
Welcome to the board.

Well thanks for the warm welcome LOL and I'll have to pass on the rainbow room. Anyway it figures I start browsing the 1994 ads, make an offer on a '96, next thing I'm looking at '98 and now 2000 is sounding good. Whatever happened to the budget??? Yellow IS cool after red, red, red. Maybe by the time I buy, the 2000's will be at '96 prices today. On second thought I better find more income.

Hey thanks for that. I think I will focus on 5th gen so the '86 is out (I do like the Pearl White though). That yeller one is nice and if I had the funds now I'd take you up on your offer. Really what I need to do is put my EX500 up for sale but I'm not quite ready to do that. Until I accumulate the funds I'm gonna get some more road time under my belt.
