new guy w/ 1993 VFR

Hi,
I found this forum Googling around looking for VFR info. It looks great!

My 1993 VFR was parked for many years, but now I have dusted it off and charged the battery, ride it 25 miles to work every day.
Parked the Ford Powerstroke Diesel.

I also changed the oil & filter, put in some new plugs (last plug change was 1997), changed all the brake/clutch fluid, adjusted the suspension to make it a little more firm.

What a great bike! So much more sophisticated and comfortable than the 1974 Z1 I sold.

It has 15k miles from when I drove it out of the dealer shop, new.
I bought all the factory options for 1993 except the center stand, and many VFR special tools.

The only thing I have had to do since it was new is new tires. I put a Dunlop SPORTMAX II D204F on the front and a SPORTMAX 208 on the back.
And the voltage regulator died.
New AFAM chain & sprockets.

I modified the thing as soon as I got it, the steering head bearings were ball, I changed them to tapered roller bearings, front end has much tighter feel now.

I have read some things on the forum that seem to indicate that these bikes can last many miles beyond what is on mine now.

Is there anything that is a common failure part over time that I should be aware of?

Thanks,
fish123

Welcome to the group. The only common part failure that I am aware of is the Regulator/Rectifier. With proper maintenance, your 93 should last a long time.

Hi Big3, I bought it new in 1994 for $7k (left over inventory, the dealer wanted it off the floor as the red 94's were also in stock)

Rev, I lived in Lynnwood back in 1971, went to Edmonds Community College!
I miss taking the ferry over to the Olympic peninsula in the summer.
I had a 1971 Kawasaki H1 500 back then, great fun!
