Saying Hi and Asking a Question

New VFR owner here. I have a 2007 Interceptor. It was a leftover that had 31 miles on it when I purchased it a month or so ago. I am 47 years old. This is my second bike. My first was a 2003 Kawi ZR-7S. I still have that one and my wife is going to take the MSF course this fall so she can use it.

I have a question about gear and a request for anyone who feels like they can help. The only helmet I have found that comes remotely close to matching "candy dark red" is the Scorpion Exo 700 Rivet in "matte red." For me, this is good, since my current lid is a Scorpion Exo 700 Raider in yellow and I love it.

My question: can anyone confirm that the Rivet helmet I found comes close to candy dark red? Or, is there a helmet that you know of that matches the Candy Dark Red of the 07 vfr?

I live in a very rural area and we have no Scorpion dealers anywhere close.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Two of my three bikes are below

Nice dark red VFR.
Sorry can't help with the helmet question.

That's scary. I just bought a leftover red 2007 VFR (with 60 miles on it) about a month ago and I'm 47 and it is my second bike.

I live in Cincinnati and there are several dealers relatively close by (depending on which work location I go to). I'm not sure if any of them carry Scorpion and/or have a "matte red" sample, but I'm happy to stop in and check (you don't have to ask me to go to the bike store more than once ) It's supposed to be perfect riding weather here for the next three days, so I should have an answer for you by the weekend (unless someone beats me to it, or already has the answer).

In my own case, I needed a new helmet before picking up the bike, so I bought a black HJC helmet with thin red piping around silver artwork so that I had some red in the helmet to tie it to the bike, but not so much that it was critical that it matched the red of the bike.

That's fantastic, OHVFR. Just what I was hoping for. Thank you so much and I hope we also get the weather that's over your way for the the weekend here in PA.

Not sure where you are with mileage on your bike, but I'm only up to 256. This weekend I will ride to the Carlisle Bike Fest so I should get it beyond the break-in mileage on the way there. It's a two- to three-hour ride from my place in the hills.

Drewl, I love that color VFR. It's probably my favorite, but I am partial to yellow vehicles. There's probably a story about your avatar somewhere on the these boards, but that other vehicle is a sweet ride regardless of the color.

Welcome, Scooter. Definitely a sweet color! Shoei makes a wine red RF 1000 helmiet that looks like it could be a close match. There is a Dunlop Roadsmart add with the red 2007 VFR, and the rider is wearing a red shoei helmet that I think is the RF 1000, and it looks good.

If you can't find one to match, you should be able to bring it to any trusted collision repair shop and they should be able to color match it for you for a modest price.

Thanks Scooter. The other vehicle in the pic is one of my offices. Check out my photos, there's more.
I grew up in the south hills of PGH. So, welcome aboard again from a fellow PAer.

Love the color ScooterD! I also live in Central PA (Ephrata area). I don't think I've seen another VFR on the road since I bought my bike so I hope to see or ride with you sometime soon. I'll keep my eyes peeled for candy dark red helmets at the shops I frequent.

BTW, this is my 2nd bike also but you got about 10 years on me.

Hi! I have a wine red Shoei TZR(better than scorpion..fit, finish, etc.. but opinions are opinions!) that I swear is almost a dead ringer for the color of your bike! Shoei Helmets USA - Introducing the Hornet DS

Hey everyone. Thanks for the advice and the welcome. I have been able to put about 600 miles on my bike since I first wrote and it will go in for its 600-mile service on Thursday.

Two slight disappointments:

1- The seat cowl has dug a hole in the paint at the back where it meets the tail section. I know I have the seat installed properly and I only weigh 155 pounds so it's not like I'm crushing the bike at all. I told the dealer to order some touch-up paint ($6.95) and I'll just deal with it. I'm sure there are other scratches in its future, so it's not something I get real worked up about.

2- I've been caught riding in two or three major rainstorms coming home from work this year and I've got some brownness on my muffler that looks like the beginnings of rust. I thought the exhaust was stainless so I'll have to see if it is something else that is causing it. This one I am a little more worked up about because I love the stock exhaust (not a big "sound" guy, and this one makes just the right tone for me), but the visual is a bummer. If it gets to me more of an issue, I'll post a pic and see if anyone thinks it's worth bringing to the dealer's attention. (I'm not usually a fussy person, but this is my first brand-new bike ever. I had a brand-new car once in the 1980s. Regretted it and have bought used ever since.)

And since I have a few minutes before my day explodes, I'll write just a little more about my VFR experience.

In a word: exhilarating.

The bike looks like a piece of art. At slow speed, it's as if I'm walking through a room with a supermodel. A guy on a really trick 'busa pulled up along side me at a stop light the other day and said "wow, that's a really nice bike."

The bike performs exactly as I hoped. At high speed it inspires confidence. At slow speed it makes the right amount of power for any maneuver and it has that beautiful V4 growl. The longest I have been on it has been 1 hour 15 minutes, and I was comfortable the entire time.

As for gear, I am really leaning toward the Scorpion Exo 700 Matte Rivet Red and a black jacket. My second choice is the Scorpion Exo 400 Sonic Black with a black jacket. If I thought the Exo 400 would perform as well as the Exo 700, I would go with the black. But I have a 700 currently and I love it, so I'm not really into "fixing" something if it's working for me already.

Best wishes to everyone. Ride safe.

Hey there Scooter,

A delayed welcome. I am not crushed by the normal Honda Red but ever since I saw this Dark Candy Red, I have just loved that colour. Had it been a choice in 06 I might have bought that colour instead of the Pearl White.

Your discoloring on the muffler is puzzling. Do send pix. I bought mine new end of July 06, ride it to and from work right through the winter, so long as snow is not on the ground. I have 60,000 km on it and have no signs of rust.

But duuuuude. Almost four weeks and only 600 miles. Take that thing down off the display shelf and ride it. It only gets better.

Common and ride over to my place, I will buy you a coffee if you do!
