New member in San Diego

Hello. I've been reading about VFRs and was lucky to find this site. I currently have an '07 Ducati Monster S2R800 and I love it, but I really like the idea of a 90 degree V-4, so I'm thinking about getting a VFR of some kind in addition to the Monster. I'd like an '07 25th anniv., but unless I found a ridiculous deal, I'll probably end up with a late 80's model; ideally a VF1000R, but I like all of them I've seen. If anyone has any advice on any VFR models to avoid, I'd like hearing it. Thanks for your time.

cdv... welcome to the VFR world. read up on the 80's 1000 as it was quite heavy. you'd likely enjoy a 4th gen or 5th gen used if you can not find the coin for the ultimate - that 6th gen RWB 25th Anniversary.

oh, in full disclosure, I have a 6th gen RWB 25th Anniv.

We don't care if you don't have a VFR (yet), they don't mind me on my FZ1 (Though I used to have a 1985 VF500F, the reason I joined this site).

I had a VF500F & had a great time on that bike, but never really realized how heavy it was until I rode my buddies VF700 (or maybe it was a 750 I dont remember). that felt quite a bit lighter than my 500 & was WAY faster. I got about 5 minutes on a 1000 & it felt like a tank. I was not @ all pleased with it. Mind you it was pretty old @ the time & pretty beat up. however, I dont think they got much better. LOL. I like my '86 800 WAAAAY better than all of them (including my buddies F2). one bike I did like riding was this dudes Genesis 600 back in the day. it was wicked fast & felt light & nimble.

Thanks for all the replies. Hearing about the weight of the VF1000R is interesting as is the rest of the info everyone has given. I've been reading about the pros and cons of the 6 generations here, and I like all of them from what I've read.

It sounds like the way to go is to buy something in the best condition that can be afforded. I could afford a new Interceptor, but don't want the debt unless I find a mint '07 RWB for a really low price. The history of VFRs is interesting and I really like the older generations, but I have a lot to learn before I decide what I'd search for aside from the '07.

Even though I don't have a VFR yet and may not for a while, I'd like meeting up for a ride. This weekend and next I may be out of town, but after that I'll be around. Meeting new people is always nice, and I like seeing and learning about other bikes. None of my current riding friends has an Interceptor, but my MSF instructor had a '99 VFR that he let me ride around the course after the class was done. He guessed it had between 80-100k (TMU becuse the odo quit after it was stolen around 60k), and it still ran really well as far as I could tell. That bike is responsible for my interest in VFRs. Thanks again for all the info so far.
