Hello, my name is Golden Carper, nickname Bub. I served 22 yrs with the USAF, retired and then taught elementary school for 15 yrs. Air Force had me stationed in Florida and lived there for 35 yrs. Decided I wanted to ride bikes in the mountains, so sold my sail boat, home, etc and moved to South Carolina. Really enjoy roads that twist and turn and go up and down, so much so I sold my 82 BMW R100 and 84 BMW R65. Bought a 06 Suzuki VStrom DL 1000. Great bike, also bought a 74 CB 750 as it takes me back to my earlier years. Was riding over in Tennessee and saw a 500cc Interceptor owned by the lady at the motorcyle campgound I was staying at. Loved the looks and started looking on Ebay for one. Found my 84 1000cc Interceptor with 45,000 miles in Tronto Canada. Bid on it and now it's mine. Have had it one week today [ 10/26/08 ]. I would like to hear about problems, good tires for it, accessories and so on. And I'm sure I'll have other ideas to share. One thing I'm looking for is some kind of mount so I can install regular handle bars. I know the stock bars are very good, but I would like to set up a little straighter, and also a lip I can add to the windscreen to deflect the wind up a little.
Thanks, Bub

what did I do???

Hello Chris, Actually I do remember, but sometimes can't find my car keys!!
First hitch I worked on airplanes, the B47. Look that one up! Then I got decided that electronics was the way to go and went into ground radar maint. Out of 22 yrs in, did 16 at 3 Florida bases--MacDill at Tampa, Eglin at Ft Walton Beach and Patrick at Cocoa Beach. Also did a year each at remote radar sites in Alaska and Iceland. Also 3 years in Germany. Had a good time. After retiring went back to school and got a BA in education and taught school untill finally hanging it up in 2000. Loved Florida but go tired of riding on straight roads so moved here to S. Carolina where the riding is great and the winters are bearable to my thinned out blood.
When are you coming back states side?
Keep the rubber down!

Actually, my name is Justin. I'm not quite sure where you got Chris from?

I am quite familiar with the B47. I am a bit of a geek when it comes to aircraft history. My favorite aircraft of all time is the Convair B-58 Hustler.

I've been at KWRI, NJ for 7 years. I am deploying to the festering hemorhoid of the world, the middle east, AGAIN in 3 weeks.

what now??

Yep, yer right Derstuka, just glanced at the bottom of his post and thought it was Justin's name. Sorry Justin. And with my name I'm rollin in it, or was ---until I bought another cycle!!!
Generally when I mention B47, I get blank looks, so it's nice someone remembers some of the AF history. The B58 is wild, but I go further back to my favorite-- the F86 and non-jet is the is the F4U Corsair. Fly it all the time in my Pacfic Fighters flight sim game.
Sorry you gotta go back to the mid east again. I was very lucky in that I avoided those places, even skipped through Viet Nam.

welcome to the site. I'm an AF vet myself but I was not 100% fond of it as I went open gen and became an 811x0 or security specialist as they called it. oh well, live and learn... but anyway, glad you found us. watch for oiling problems with the cams I think and cam chain tensioners? is that right for the '84 guys? that's quite a few miles for one of the old girls so you might need to be wrench friendly...
