    Trip counter problems

    Hi all,

    I've just bought an 800FI (1999) and I've got a stupid question

When I first started riding the bike on Friday everything was perfect .
But on Sat I filled her up and zero'd the trip counter, when I looked down later on I realised that I had done zero miles after a couple of hours riding and the odeometer had not changed either. After another fuel stop I pressed the trip button again to no avail . But after about half an hours further riding they started working again.

Does anybody out there have any ideas on whats going on

    Thanks in advance

What are you complaining about? I would love that...just imagine....low low miles on your bike now! That does sound weird though. Does the fuel gauge and everything else work ok? I wonder if something is loose or corroded. Do you have the honda repair manual? It might have some advice of what to look based on your issue.

One last question. Once your odometer starts running again, does it make up for the miles when it was not working?

Yes all the other gauges (fuel / time / temp) etc work including the speedo and rev counter . Yep you are right I gain absolutley zero miles for lots of traveling . But I've always done my re-fuels by trip counters and not fuel gauges . How accuate is the fuel gauge???

I find it to be fairly accurate. Well, sometimes you have to account for the sloshing of fuel in the tank, and on inclines/delines, but as far as level roads, it does a good job I think. I ran it for about 20 miles when the last fuel bar was flashing the other day, and when I filled it up, I had about .5 gallons left. I guess to be safe, I just assume I have only 20-30 miles or so left of regular riding when the last bar starts flashing (on level ground). I usually don't let it get that far, however, sometimes it happens.

Oh, welcome to the forum by the way!
