Gen 4 CBR undertail attempt .....

Well while the old girl was down I decided to play muffler man. I bought a 05

CBR under rail exhaust, a 2004 R1 under tail exhaust, and Tori gave me his bent

Gen 6 exhaust. With all this I figure I should be able to come up with

something. So I decided I like the CBR so far, plus the R1's are just too big. I

got a mock up here to show you. I am waiting on the ext5ra lower tail light

piece to show up so I can hack on it. For now I am trying to get the

clearance which I dont have. It seems the Gen 4 with the top mounted

caliper makes the axle sit at the top of the eccentric. So my next step is to

do the counter sunk brake caliper bolt and pivot the axle. I may have to

ditch the hugger, we will see. Any thoughts, suggestions, comments are

    welcome!

I like it. Just needs a smaller tailight like u said. U indeed need that clearance in between the tire and the muffler.

Sorry Bri....this is where our likeness seems to separate. I think that a single undertail exhaust looks exactly like butthole. Everytime I am behind a CBR I see this big butthole staring right at me....I figure that bikes shouldn't have a butthole .... I hate them on CBRs, or what not. Gotta be two undertail, or stick to the side. IMO of course.....nice work though.

Oh, and you are probably gonna bake your arse as well from the heat....but then again, it is your bike, and I say do whatever makes you happy!

I tried that on my 3rd gen. The tire kept rubbing the muffler. I even went so far as to order an automotive exhasut tip (dual tip of course), and try that. Sounded awsome and was loud as all get out, but there still was not enought clearance. I wish you lots of luck in this project.

    Just a thought...
As I too was contemplating a dual tip undertail pipe over the winter for my
    3rd Gen.

Would a tail riser do the trick?
Thurn (I think) the German company offers quality tail risers for the 4th Gen on Ebay and their website. Gives you an additional 30mm of clearance.

Would be almost another 1.25" of clearance above the rear tire.

I was going to do this, but the 3rd Gen riser is a little more complicated and $$$$ as opposed to the 4th Gen.
4th Gen riser is around $65. if I remember correctly.

Im with you but I dont have the $$ to shell out on the small dual carbon cans I would love to have under there. If some come up on Ebay for cheap I can always go back in for some more playing. Untill then get use to looking at my Butt hole CornHolio

As for the plate, what's the plan?

So are you guys saying there is a setup small enough to fit up under there and it's just a matter of $$$

If I could get a pipe to fit up under mine, I'd pay the cash to do it.

Once I get it into position I can have the plate under the exhaust no problem. Ill build a nice aluminum bracket.

Well, I played around with the exhaust a bit more today. I took out my caliper bolt and turned my eccentric 180 degrees. I also took off my hugger as it was usless with the eccentric in this position. Two problems I see with the flipped ec centric -
    1. the chain is riding on the top guide ( no test ride just on side stand )
    2. if it gets a bit loose, chain can start to touch the center stand ( not a problem by adding 1/2 inch bigger rubber stopper.
So I turn it back and without the hugger I have about 3 -3 1/2 inches of clearance, I don't think this will be enough. I would order the Thurn tail riser links, but I think it will put the chain in the same position. So for now I am still fiddling with it while I wait for my Honda goodies to get here and put the bike back together.

Thurn Tail riser on order....project still in the works! Im determine to get it this time! With a few mm from the 929 shock (sending to Jamie for spring upgrade), Thurn riser and proper muffler placement and massaging, it should work....stay tuned.

i got a 929 shock on my 93 from jamie also. much better than stock, does ad a little bit of height too, which goes well with my lowered front end. had to crank down the preload and dampening to get it to stop bouncing though (and im only 170lbs).

I was going to stay out of this, because you didn't give a "none of the above" option in the poll, but you went and pressed. I will quote Ghost by saying this about the undertail 5g exhaust idea: "It's pretty hard on the eyes".

i like the way the gen 6 pipe follows the triangular shapes of the tail. but that carbon one looks like something off a jet, in a good way.

    Done!

Ok just a quick update that the deed is DONE! With the help of Tori I finished her up tonight. Part CBR Part Triumph, and alot of hard work. Here are some pics along the way.
I cut off the center supports and made some cardboard template for the aluminum panels.

I cut off the donut part of the stock exhaust and used an up pipe from a 6th gen exhaust and a 45 adapter pipe from Kragens.

drilled some holes to mount the muffler to the stock CBR 600rr mounts

Relocated the rear master cylinder to straight up above under the rear cowl

Had a welding shop weld the aluminum panels all together for strength, Tori welded on a rod to have a new center stand stop and welded the up pipe to the 45 degree pipe. Some BBQ black paint it was was done!

    Now I need a drink!
