Center stand removal

anyone have any suggestions on removing the center stand on 4th gen. my bike is lowered and its a bitch to use the center stand now so i wanna get rid of it and just use a swing arm stand. But I'm having a little trouble wrapping my mind around the removal process just by looking at it.

Well, all I can tell you is that the 5th gen's require removal of the full exhaust system to do so. This means of course, taking off the side cowls, and all that fun stuff. I still need to do it to check my centerstand bolt threads....YUCK!

I know that on my 6th gen when I removed it I found out that one of the bolts has reverse threads on it and ended up snapping the head of the bolt off trying to remove it (I was actually tightening it and didn't know it)

. So when you do yours be cautious of one of the bolts possibly being a reverse thread bolt so you don't do what I did and have to get a special set of extractor bits for it. Just a heads up.

just want to bump this thread because i also Cant for the life of me figure out how to remove the center stand by looking at it.

I do not see any bolts to remove... i am tempted to take it to a honda shop and have them point out what i am not seeing.

anyone else have any input on how to remove a 4th gen centerstand??

Man i feel dumb. figured it out today, its just one bolt! look on left side of bike remove the spring with vise grips move the two drain hoses out of your way and u will see a 12mm bolt head take that out and the shaft for center stand slides right out, i put the bolt back in after to plug the hole and then i cut the two drain hoses a couple inches shorter just to get them out of the way, don't pull on them at all cause the could pop off like mine did and its a bitch to get them back on.

Haha....tried removing the springs with just needle nose pliers...got the smaller spring off....no luck on the bigger one though. Man those are some strong springs, I guess its off to the hardware store to expand on my tool selection.

Edit- bought the vise gripe pliers...clamped it to the spring and pulled so hard i started pulling the bike forward and the spring would not give enough so i could unhook it.

I decided to forget about unhooking the spring and instead unhooked the metal part the spring hooks into which was wayy easier for some reason.

Stands off and i think its a good 4 lbs lighter now and also looks a little more agile on the bottom too imo.

I sure wish my other bike had a centerstand- the VFR takes up less room in the garage, I can clean the chain anywhere, I can check the rear tire anytime, I can change the tire with no problem... it's great having a centerstand!

you can do this job for about 25 cents : just force pennies in between a few spring coils........

any UK bros willing to sell me a stand for an '86 ??????

Don't toss or sell the stand. It is easy to put back on for service! (Mine was easier to install than remove.) Great for chain/tire service and makes oil changes easier.
Or buy a swingarm track stand.
