    Starter clutch

Been having some issues with starting my 97 VFR750F ie: the starter motor would spin but not the engine. Anyway decided to put new rollers, spings and caps into the starter clutch. Put it all back together and it worked great.

After a while with starting the bike (bike has not been starting recently- but that's a whole other thread) it started to repeat my previous issue of spinning.

One thing I did notice was that the gear between the starter clutch and the starter moter gear seemed to have some play in it. Now there is only a metal pin going through the centre that holds it in place (not a big fan of this design). For those of you who have rebuilt the starter clutch, have you notice this or should I look into replacing the metal pin and washer? I'm just not sure how much play is too much, if you know what I mean.

    cheers

Sorry Officer....was I speeding? Everything was just a blur!

Does the part of the gear that rides adjacent to the rollers have any chatter marks on it?
    Hope that question made sense...

Not that I remember, everything looked in very good condition.

Well, I only feel comfortable typing what Ive seen so here goes:
    Here's a link to a diagram:

The gear I spoke of is item #3. I've also deen the roller/spring/cap assembly actually be forced back hard enough to break the clutch housing itself. I'm assuming the condidtion of the drive gear (#1) is ok? I'm also assuming that the starter gear is ok too?
