Smaller front turn signals on a 5th gen.

I did a quick search and didn't find what I wanted so I'll post a question. I mean it's cold and nasty here and the bike is getting some new stuff, and what the heck.

I'm interested in replacing the stock front turn signals with some that don't protrude so much. I don't even know if any are available or whether some others will work. But I really think the lines of the bike would be cleaner if those turn signals didn't stick out like a pair of wings. Anybody that can help? I certainly would appreciate it. TIA.

I too was looking for smaller signals for my 98. All I could find was carbon cover plates from THURN MOTORSPORTS in germany. I dont think anyone makes a direct bolt on flush or smaller light for this bike. I considered doing some plastic welding to eliminate the holes and then mount smaller aftermarket signals from another bike but decided it was not worth the trouble. If anyone has done this please post some picks of the project! Thanks!

The process you are referring to is "de-dumbo-fication" named after the dumbo ears we call turn signals. There may be a post or two here. A good source for info on this would be VFRDiscussions. com. Lots of folks over there have removed these and replaced them with integrated turn signal/mirrors. Good luck.

Thanks for the heads up drewl. Looks like nothing that would be quick and easy over there either. Bummer.

Not quick and easy. Some folks have purchased a second seat cowl and cut out the fairing pieces from there, then bondoed them in. The integrated signal/mirrors look slick in my opinion.
I do not dislike the stock signals enough to do the mod.

That's the way I feel about it, if I could find something quick, easy, and looked excellent I'd do it. Also because it's winter and I can't ride.

Thanks for the pics zona! I do have to say it streamlines the bike making it look much slimer. I do like it better but I am going to have to decide if it is worth the trouble? anyways thank you again!

It's not that hard to do and there are several different method to patching up those holes. The problem is that painting costs quite a bit! I still want to put some little marker lights where the dumbos used to be, but haven't found exactly what I want.

because I have no money, and thee front lights were broke remounted them. they are about 2 inches(maybe) closer to the fairing. I am still keeping the stock lights but they don't stick out as far..... Now if I could find those intergrated lights and mirrors that would be freakin cool.......

There are some clear and smoke replacement lenses available online. Forgot the site but I think they're through eBay too. They're the same size and shape as the stock though, not smaller.

ON ALL older VF/VFR models it's easily possible to tuck lights in by buying shorter rubber mounting stalks .....and inexpensive too.

If I was to spend the time to do it, I would do the mirror thing like SAFE-T.
    Beautifull!

unfortunately those won't work on an 86 but if they did... the old holes could be used for driving lights...... hMMM must find a way

on an 86? they llok like truck marker lights. I didn't think it would be that hard to find.

I have been working on this for my 5th gen. Its rather difficult. I have decided to just shave them off. Even maaco said they would do it and fill it in for me. (There is no way in hell I would have them paint it though)
