    Exhaust question

    So I did some searching but I could not find anything and the sound clips really do the systems any justice. But I have a set of Lasers with some of the packing removed on my 07. I would like to find a louder exhaust out there. I have been looking at the Staintunes and am wondering if I took the baffles out would that give me what I am looking for? Thanks guys,

    You may like to have a looks at installing catless Motad Headers like in the Pic below found in google images ( vfrworld lister ? ) , know 2 guys with them on Gen 6's one with Lasers the other Staintunes both sound magnificent ear plugs out when following them up a winding mountain pass.

    Ok I like that idea but the next question is where do I get a set of these? Also I am going to have to put a PCIII on with these arn't I?

    For the US have cut from belows vfrworld link, have a read through it for ideas also do a search on vfrdiscussion.com as think the 2 guys I know here got the Motads through them during a group order and Yes you should get a PC3.

    2 Bros sound mod

    I find it interesting that someone would want to make an aftermarket exhaust even louder. When I put my Two Brothers on my first reaction was "Wow, I need to tone that down since I leave for work at 6:15am."

    I saw how easy it was to take the endcap off so I made a plug with a conduit reducer and 3/4" box fitting. It drops right in and makes the sound much more reasonable for keeping the neighbors happy in the morning.

    Without a dyno it's hard to tell if it hurts the performance but it still runs quite well and is easy to pop out for the sport riding.

    I have a '07 RWB VFR and put Scorpions last week end. A great sound that is crisp, deep and above VTEC rpms...really awesome. I came home yesterday which was the first day I was able to ride since the install. Rode about 30 mins just before dark and when i pulled in the garage, I knew I had done the right thing. I woke up at 4:00am this morning so I could get all my gear together to ride to work. I usually wear ear plugs but not today. I rate them a 10 and they should get a little louder. Good luck, JD

    PS - These were labeled as race only in the packaging instructions. I leave home at 5:50am and my neighbors will start hating me. I'm sorry for that and normally I would not do this but when the neighbor put open exhaust on his Harley...

    This 'Loud Pipes Saves Lives' stuff is pretty bogus. I do like the sound of a tuned v-twin, I used to have a Sportster then a Buell, but that v-4 is great! I just realize that we need to be careful or more cities, like Denver, will be banning aftermarket pipes.
    The ridiculous thing about these noise laws is that they fine you more for having a loud bike than the car that turns left in front of a bike killing the rider.

    I'll say this. I pulled into my buddy's place tonight with my high mount Staintune on my 5th gen and his parents thought I pulled in with my truck. No joke. They ride a Honda 750 Spirit too.

    It's not ridiculously loud with the baffle out, but it IS a beautiful sound. If you want loud, try gutting some stockers.

    This is the thing. I used to love the sound of my Ducati. That had a full Termi system on it. It was loud. I think the packaging said it peaked at 117dB. I am not looking for nearly that much. I just would like to be anle to hear my bike above the wind noise on the highway. Thats why I am looking for alittle more. Plus here the local law enforcement dont really care how loud your bike is.

    117 decibels is ridiculously loud. I imagine it's pretty close to open headers.


    about Staintunes:

    Straight from the Staintune Website HERE.

    "...How loud are they?

    Staintune pipes decibel range will vary depending on the bike, and whether or not you use the sound restrictors. On average, as a general rule, the pipes run in the low 90's with the restrictors in place and just over 100 with the restrictors removed.

    This is a general rule of thumb and can vary depending on the individual model. A Ducati twin will definitely be more heart and ear pounding than an inline four BMW. The design of the engine can vary the number a few decibels +/-. With the restrictor in place you will get an exhaust note that is just slightly louder than the stock muffler. It will be throatier under acceleration and deceleration and only the slightest bit louder under steady throttle.

    Think of it as a shotgun choke which reduces the diameter of the exhaust exit. It has only a very small effect on performance when installed, and its main function is to reduce the exhaust note to a very pleasing level.

    STAINTUNE pipes are actually one of the quietest aftermarket exhausts you can buy. Even with the sound restrictors removed, they still come in a few decibels less than almost all other aftermarkets pipes.

    With the restrictor removed you are now in full "Sport-Pipe" mode and the bike will be louder under all conditions (idle, acceleration and deceleration). A better way to put this whole picture in perspective is to determine how well you like your neighbors. With the restrictors in place you can attend the summer parties down the street. With the restrictors removed you can pretty much count on not getting an invitation in the mail. "


    That is in on average for all their pipes. For the VFR, I swear I remember seeing something like 92 or 93 with the restrictor and 97 without it...but don't hold me to that. 5th Gen btw.

    Normally I'd agree if you're talking IL4 or HD Slash Cut straight through but I love the VFR's V4 sound with passion the louder the better. Oddly enough 2 days ago found myself feeling dissapointed when walking to my office early in the morning and spotting with a big smile as a shiney Tahitian blue Gen 5 come slowing towards a red light hearing his gear whine next to me but then a soft fart as he accelerated away with his standard exhaust, was a little dissapointing sort of like having sex then told to get off halfway through, it just wasn't right.

    Anyway just found my clip of a mates Gen 6 with spuds out Staintunes with Motad Headers, got to love that sound just off idle at the 13 secs count down mark.

    20 years of riding, driving and walking around a major central city says they most definitely do save lives.

    On more than one occasion riding and walking have seen pedestrians nearly step between traffic halted cars with a motorcycle filtering through lines of stationary traffic then quickly stepping back hearing the motorcycles exhaust before actually seeing it.

    In exactly the same circumstances have seen speeding bicycle couriers cleaning up inattentive jaywalkers walking across the road between lines of stopped cars, the mess it makes of both the cycle rider and pedestrian usually isn't very pretty.

    I don't know if they save lives but I believe it is possible. I have noticed over the years that when you're beside a cager; either in city traffic or on the highway, they notice the sound. Since so many are texting or using a cell phone, we need every advantage we can get.

    PS - The VFR video with the headers and slip-ons sounded awesome. That is radical and makes the VFR sound like in will lay down 9 sec. quarter miles.

    I think that is the sound and the level that I am looking for. Welp now I am going to wait and pull my lasers off and start looking for a set of Staintunes and a Motad header.

    Yeah, that sounds even harsher than the 2-Bros (not in a bad way). I've ridden behind guys where I have to pull back or pass them their pipes are so loud.

    Like Soundmaster said, I want to still be friends with the neighbors. We used to have a couple of teenage boys next door with sportbikes. I kind of got tired of apologizing for them every time I talked to neighbors. I finally started chewing the boys and their friends out for hotrodding up and down the street.

    I'll just say it again though that if we aren't careful they will ban aftermarket pipes alltogether, then we'll be screwed.

    I agree. I have always been courtious when it came to my car and my bikes. I have loud exhausts on both of them and would try to damn near idle then whenever I could. I have not had a complaint yet.

    Agree there needs to be a balance, I'm thinking maybe around 100db, the 117db mentioned earlier is way way too loud. My Mk1 Gen 5's Headers are catless the aftermarket Carbon Arrow is actually not very loud but loud enough for upcoming cage drivers, dopy pedestrians to hear and me to smile winding up a canyon or through a tunnel.

    The guy with the Motad with Staintunes does not commute on it so mostly his riding is for weekend fun and I never tire of riding behind him though while maybe louder than normal his Gen 6 is still no-where near as loud as many straight through pipes on Harleys and Triumphs I've heard.

    I just completed my new restrictor for my Staintune. With the original in I thought it was just a bit too quiet and with it out it was a little too loud.
    I made a new one with 1.50" 304ss tubing and I'd say it's now just about perfect. The original has two pieces of tubing joined together 1.125 & 1.25.
    Best part is I can take it out or put the original back in. I have a drawing if anyone is interested.

    Did you have to remove the center stand to get the OEM header/cat off?

    I know this thread is a few months old but if anyone wants a seriously loud exhaust they should look at a D&D exhaust. I've known several people who got them and they are very loud and obnoxious just like my wife LOL!!

    Figured it out ... didn't have to remove the center stand .. just had to use the side stand to get a bolt out and then I put the center stand back down ... easy easy

    Do you know how to gut the stock pipes and baffles on 6th gen bike.
    i am not able to dish out the 1000 for staintunes yet or 500 for the motad headers.
    do you know of a post with pix realy helps.

    I believe there are a few posts about it on this site. I can't remember them off the top of my head. Never did it myself since I have a 5th gen with side pipe. Search is your friend!
