Yeah, tons of times. I've never taken pictures of the process because it's already outlined in the Honda Manual that I'm sure you already have.

No, you do not need to pull the heads to repair the gearbox. One of the case half bolts will not come out all of the way but that's ok because it can still be unthreaded.

Here is the $64,000 question: have you checked on the parts you need? Some of them are no longer available. I suggest you sort that out first before you tear it down and end up with a pile of parts.

What are you planning to do about parts availability? Per my previous comment, you cannot get the parts you need to fix this anymore. An undercut modification will fix the gear dogs, so for $400 you can get that part taken care of. However, at least one shift fork and the shift drum itself are probably damaged. Neither of those parts are available and there isn't a repair you can make on them.

If you mean David Silver Spares in the UK, they don't have the parts either. I also know that Honda Canada is NLA. I'm not trying to be a buzz kill here, but I REALLY do not think you are going to be able to get the parts to fix it. The best you can do is find used, and that's a crap shoot because most of those are just as bad (especially the shift drums).

I don't have any pictures of it, but it's the bolt that is tucked under the rear head. The head of the bolt is exposed to the outside world and it extends all of the way through to the lower case half. You have to pull the rear exhaust tubes just to see it.

Just be care, there are a lot of case half bolts and not all of them are obvious. DO NOT pry the case halves apart - that will not be necessary.
