I'd look for a Penske shock, great shock for the money.

I put a 2006 f4i shock on my 98 and so far so good. I sent the shock out to have a stiffer spring put on it. You have to shim the top of the shock mount to get a comparable height to the stock one but no big deal. I used a bunch of stainless washers. The back tire is 1/4 higher off the ground than with the stock shock but you can drop the front forks to make up the difference. I love having compression and rebound. This winter I am installing an 05 R1 front end on the bike. Good luck with the bike. Todd

if you go 929 route you need spring and have it revalved for you bike plus you need to make op a bracket or shim it to match lenth of stock shock.
best bet is have stock shock resprung for your weight and revalved as well

I dont but reworking stock shock is prob the route I will go.
I have called a few local places in my area. around 300 bucks seems to be average w/o spring
