    Staintune

Anyone out there who installed a Staintune on a 6th generation, particuarly those with the Motad headers, were you able to get the heat shield to fit? Not the long thin one that goes on the pipe itself, but the one that goes by the rear master cylinder for the brakes, fairly big black metal thing. I haven't really tried to force it yet, but it doesn't seem to want to go back in there.

If no-one here has Motad with Stainetunes awesome sounding Combo I'll ask one of the OzVFR guys that has that setup.

In the meantime incase you missed it in the exhaust sound clips, this is what is sounds like.

I'm so torn. I can't make the decision between Staintunes and Laser Xtreme. I think I'm going to have to wait for Toe to get things straightened out with his and get a good clip from him before I can decide.

Oh I know it sounds great, I have the headers and the pipes on already. I am actually just butonning the bike up after doing a ton of stuff over a period of several months. I took wayyyy to long. As part of putting it all back together I was trying to put the heat shield on, and it doesn't seem to want to go, I think the pipe where it bends from going up to going back into the muffler is too close to the inner surface of the rear fender, but I wanted to check to see if maybe I just didn't try it the right way or something. Know what I mean. Or if someone else already did it, and can tell me what and where and how much I need to trim to make it work; it would save me some time. I have a ride planned for Sunday, and want to have it all done. First real ride in like 10 months - except for two brief shakedown runs this past weekend (one of which I got followed home by a cop, whoops).

Scuba I would appreciate it. I've heard the Staintunes in person and they do sound great. I haven't heard a clip yet that does them justice. I've also heard the Lasers but all I can find of them are clips with the engine at idle. I want to hear it rev and hear them breath heh.

Regarding Toe's Lasers... I know he was having some fitment issues due to an improper weld at the factory. Didn't know if he had it straightened out yet or not however.

i did have a little trouble putting the heat shield back on... but my headers are heat wrap'd so i just said fuck it. i think it looks much better with out it+ weight savings of a pound or so
anyways if your pipes arent insulated in some way you should probably get that shield back on. just be patient and dont force.

Have you tried removing the footpeg mount and getting it in there and then putting the footpeg mount back on?

Yeupp, tried that, no go. So I assume from your response, you got it back on, right? So that does mean it is possible. Which is important to know. What I may be running into is that I actually had to trim the end of the headers where the Staintunes connected, as it was so long the mufflers were off to the right side of the bike, so I may have trimed too much off, or not enough off. Oddly though I didn't have the problem that I think you had where I think you weren't clearing the oil pan or something.

I had mine JetHot coated, which I don't think adds too much to the outside diameter of the pipes. The pipes do indeed look good uncovered, but I that shield also serves to cover up the rear brake master cyl. and the brake modulator, all of which isn't very pretty. Plus I would think I would want to keep dirt, water and sun away from all that stuff if possible.

I actually have LV carbon...never had a problem with the fit.....just was wondering if it might help. The motad required some adjustments but it clears and is tucked up very tight compared to the other motads I have seen, haven't had a problem since. Hopefully you'll get it sorted.

Ahh for some reason I thought you had the save exact setup as I, and the part that isn't clearing isn't from the headers, it is from the Staintunes. I'll just have to take a look at it sometime, I figure that piece may work to keep the heat off my right thigh in stop and go SF Bay area traffic too, so I definately want to get it back on if I can. But since my daughter came out into the world at 3:09 this morning, it will have to wait a few weeks....
