05 CBR 600/1000 shock swapable to 92 VFR?

These shocks are dirt cheap and plentiful on EBay. Any one have 1st hand experience in swapping either to the 92 VFR?

    thanks

everyone's been doin the 929 swap.
it would probably be a bitch to swap in a new rr bike shock.
see what jamie has to say about it. hes been working on the newer 954 shock.,,

Nope, it won't work. There isn't any room for the reservoir sticking up like it does on the 600RR shock. 1000RR shocks don't work either. I agree, it would be nice because lately there seem to be a lot of $1 auctions for 600RR shocks.

As mentioned, the 929 shock is the best choice. I've got some of those here to use as donors if you are interested, just let me know!

Jamie do you have a spacer for the 929 shock like the 954 pic you posted awhile back?

You bet! What you show is a 954 which I tried and didn't work, the modification looks the same but uses a 929 shock.

The only problem for How2 is that it won't work on the 92's. In addition to adding length, you need to convert the lower mount on the 929 shock from an eye to a clevis. Just adding the upper extension won't do that.

The modification you show in the picture is what I'm doing currently with the 929 shocks on the 4th gens. They have an eye style mount on both ends just like the 929.

Edit: Fixed my post, I got mixed up between different generation bikes.

    Shock swap for 92 VFR

The difference between the 900 and 929 shock is what?

BTW the 900 swap is going into the NT650 GT I have.

Quite a bit, actually. The 900RR shock is an older style Showa with the reservoir attached with a hose and the 929 is the newer style with the reservoir intergal with the shock body.

The 900RR shock is a great upgrade for the NT650. What makes it so nice is that it's a direct fit! The VFR guys would love it if something like that existed for them.

    Shock swap for 92 VFR

Ok , I'll take your word on that having never been into one.

So, how do you get around the issue that the 92 and CBR are clevis end and the 929 is a closed eye end?

I've been doing these shock conversions for several years now. Do some searches on the forum and you should find a lot more details about it.
