Need fuel tank help please!

Well, I'm an idiot. I took the fuel tank off my 1996 vfr, in order to drain/clean out the old fuel, check for rust, etc., and I didn't label the various hoses connected to it. I know one is just a drain, and one goes from the petcock into the fuel filter...it's the last one that I forget. My guess is that it's a vacuum hose that goes into the carbs, and it looks like it connects with a short hose that curls down from a horizontal line between the carbs, but I wanted to double check before I did anything catastrophic.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
I'm currently without a digital camera, so I attached a kindergarten-worthy picture of what I'm talking about.

after checking the manual, it looks like there is both a drain and breather tube connected to the tank. I'm still not sure about the short tube coming from between the carbs...

I believe the short tube coming from between the carbs is just a breather tube, on my VFR it's not connected to anything. Not really sure what it's there for, but no tubes from your fuel tank connect to it. Hope this helps.

yeah, I think it's just an air vent tube. I guess I'll just thread the breather tube from the tank down next to where the drain tube goes...the one thing I couldn't figure out was that there is a plastic "elbow" fitting on the end of the breather tube from the tank...I think it hooks into another length of open tube, so maybe I pulled it off of there by mistake, or maybe the extra length fell off...

Thanks for the help...it just seemed weird to me to have a short open-air tube to nowhere from the carbs.....

No prob, if you can wait a few days, I'll take some pics w/my digital camera, and post them. Probably won't be until late Sat or Sunday night, as my weekend is already fairly full.

that would actually be great if it's not too much trouble. Was able to track down the rest of the breather hose from the tank, which is good. noticed the reg/rectifyer getting real hot, and even a little smoke, which is not good.

One of the tubes I believe the larger one is a drain for over flow from the filler area, other is the fuel line. you say there's another, hmm I just had it off too. and only recall two, is this a Ca. model? yep must be, as in the manual its says Ca. model has another breather. Hmm well whats ya know I have that second one too, so I do have a CA. Model, the gent I bought it from wasn't sure. Now I know.

looking at the manual, I'm not sure you (or I for that matter) have a California model. On page 2-23, it shows the tank setup for anything after '93, and you can see the three tubes in the illustration.

while I'm at it, anybody have any idea as to why the reg/rectifyer thing just popped up? I understand from doing some searches that they're "accident prone," but I wonder why mine just decided to overheat. I didn't have the bike running for more than 2 or 3 minutes.

Saw that, also on page 1-43 it breaks it down to whats what . then on 6-14 shows the differance, along with whats on page 6-25. Page 1-33 and 1-38 shows the hoses and where, what they go and do. So since I don't have all that stuff I'm back to a 49 state model, guess this fuel tank breather thing is just the norm on the 49 state version.

Okay now that it's been brought up, I suspose mine will go bad now, sheesh been like 4 VFRs over the last 20 years and never had one go south on me. Gee thanks, fingers crossed as well as the legs :)

Thanks for pointing out page 1-38...that has a really good view of everything. Douglas, don't worry about a digital pic...this page in the manual gives a good simple view, and it looks like everything is where it's supposed to be. I guess the regulator/rectifyer will be another thread...time to buy a multimeter?
