New pipe, new vibration. Help!
Ok, its a new to me pipe. I bought it off my brother who totaled his 2000 VFR. The pipe is the infamous Staintune high mount. No baffle or "spud" in it. I took off my stock pipe and installed the Staintune. It sounds GREAT! But, I feel more vibration in the handlebars and foot pegs now. Is this normal and the price you pay for the sound? Has anyone else noticed this with their aftermarket slip on?
Thanks, deetben 99 VFR 800 |

Is the highmount vibrating on your rear passenger peg? I noticed that mine likes to either be super close to it, or lean on it, and this can cause some vibration. Also, as mentioned, look at your other mounts and try some rubber washers.

I believe the vibration is coming from the thump, thump, thump sound the Staintune makes. The stock pipe was very quiet in comparison. Hardly noticable over the gear whine. The rear peg exhaust mount has a rubber bushing in it and then it slips straight onto the exhaust pipe. I have not used the rear peg to see if the vibration is more pronounced there. I do notice the vibration in the front foot pegs, and that is what I don't like. My feet feel numb/tingly when I get off the bike.

Solution is to ride, ride and ride some more. j.k. I am still experiencing the vibration, but I have to admit, the more I ride it the less I seem to pay attention to it. I also noticed that their is a mount on the pipe down where the center stand makes contact that is missing it's rubber bushing. I have not gotten to it yet, but I am planning on putting a piece of rubber tubing on the center stand where it makes contact with the pipe. Hopefully that will help out some. |
