Replacing mirrors with turn signals - source for turn signals?

Hey All,

Just got my VFR and am in the midst of painting it. I'm a big fan of bar end mirrors so I'm going to be moving my set from my SV to the VFR. So, I'd like to put LED turn signals in place of the original mirrors and am wondering if anyone knows of a supplier of such an animal.

Thanks in advance,

Wesley J

Well, the wonders of ebay never cease to amaze me....

I just bought a set of these, I'll post on whether or not they actually fit.

I've received the turn signals and they're a perfect fit. I'm in the midst of painting the VFR but I'll post how they look when done.

Confused here....I thought you were buying LED mirror blinkers, right? Those things just look like they are to go where the stock blinker does. Also, how are they lit up with no wires? Do they run on batteries?

They're wired into the existing turn signals. I dislike the look of fairing mounted mirrors. IMHO even on the nicest bikes they look like an after thought required by law. Removing them makes the front of the bike apear to be lowered and look much more agressive. Essentially I didnt feel like modifying the bodywork and mirror support structure to remove them so the next best option was placing a stealthy turn signal in their place. A nice side effect is a bit of increased vissability.

Hey Superstuka,

How would you connect them to the switch gear without wires? You know somethin' I don't?....................

Actually they're Bluetooth....

Kidding, it'd be kinda hard to sell them as turn signals without wires.... The wires run out the bottom through whatever they have them sitting on for the photo.

Well, got the VFR painted and mostly re-assembled. So, here's a shot of the turn signals that replaced the mirrors. More pics to come, this is just the only one I have access to here at work.

Cheers

nice paint job! Those blinkers look sick. I have never used bar end mirrors, maybe I should try em! Great mod. Can you describe how they attach and so on? Is it so easy that they screw right into the mirror bolt-hole? Good job on the bike!

ps. Stuka, I think your avatar needs to be bigger. haha makes my day every time!

Very interesting!
I don't know if I would like the bar ends too much, but it does look really good. Those lights look like they were made for that application specifically.

I just checked out the link... They are for that application!

Some interesting stuff in the background too. Custom tube steel truck frame on a custom work stand? Mounted dust collector or air handler? A good bit of clean DIY work going on!

I need more time........damn wife and kid.

Thanks guys. I'll post a bunch of pics and more details when I get home tonight.

The main reason I went this way is that I like bar end mirrors SO much better than regular mirrors. Cheapies suck but these are very well built and are convex so you get a much larger field of view than a standard mirror. I'll never ride with regular mirrors again. Another cool thing with that you can adjust them without even moving your hands from the bars. Very nice for the odd bit of slabbing it.

Vlad, ya, that's a 1970 Ford F-100 in the background. I've built it from my personal design. Mustang II up front, triangulated 4 link in the rear, air bags all around. 700 HP twin turbo 5.4 3V....

And yes a dust collector in the background. I build furniture on the side and I've just finished our new kitchen. Word of advice: dont attempt to build an entire kitchen full of custom cabinets from rough lumber unless you're f-d in the head....

After:

Also, if you care, I have a couple of blogs with way more deets.

I bought a pair of these as well from the same dealer on ebay. Unfortunately, I soon found out the guy is an absolute dick. even though the seller advertises them as fitting 90-97 VFRs, you have to modify them and find your own hardware to get them to actually mount. Not a huge deal, but I had to go through a PayPal dispute to get my money back, even though I returned the mirrors to the guy. As soon as PayPal refunded me my money, the seller filed an "unpaid item" claim against me. Total jackass.

Very Nicely done Wesley J!

The paint turned out pretty sweet, gonna look great in the sun this summer.

OFF TOPIC

Did you ever order your AP-2? I was just wonderin' because I ordered one from Jim at Eastern Beaver with a custom 30A HD Relay Kit. I was interested to see what you thought of it, if you did. I'm hoping to receive the kit and AP-2 this week and have it installed by Friday. I would have never had the idea they even made these things until our correspondence earlier. Thanks for your help.
