borg's vfr: gutted exhaust and other mods.

I had been thinking of upgrading the exhaust on my 06 vfr for some time. I have settled on bos gp1 but seem to be unable to find a dealer that has them in stock. I got impatient so I decided for the moment to gut the exhaust. The idea was taken from a member from the other vfr forum, his instructions were simple to follow and the only tools he used were drill, hole saw and dremel. If you want step by step I can post it otherwise refer to the thread in vfrd.

I also installed a fender eliminator purchased from kanadian ken (vfrd member), replaced stock grips with gel pro grips #699, shock tank pad and I also bought axio tank bag.

No, i used a different method......no welding required.
I used drill with hole saw to cut out exhaust outlets then dremel tool to cut the exhaust pipes, then it was just a matter of putting it back together. Very simple procedure really. I'm happy with the exhaust note.......may not have to spend the dollars on an after market exhaust after all.

Gutted exhaust

Does your method of gutting the exhaust cause the trim plate on the end of the muffler to get extra hot, since the pipes are gone to direct the exhaust past the trim plate?

Have not noticed it but to be honest I've never really checked. All I can say is that it has not discolored, which could be an indication that it does not get very hot.

Below is a link to a more detailed description of how I performed the mod.

This mod takes allot longer than you would think. The main problem that I had was that the dremel cutoff discs are larger than the pipe so you must grind them down until they fit inside and you better have a whole lot of them probably took about 30 +/-. But it does sound a whole lot better than stock.
