Right Peg Heat from Exhaust Headers

Have a 98 with 35K miles. The bike has been absolutely great. However, my only real complain (other than weight) is the extreme heat that comes from the rear headers on the right side. In hot weather, it just cooks my right foot and can probably fry bacon on the peg. For years noticed my right boot would get hotter than the left and figured it had something to do with the air flow from the right side radiator. It was only when I rode it with a pair of "non-boots" that I realized the immence heat coming from the headers. Are there heat shields for this or some other remedy for this?

The newer models have heat shields on the up pipe. The 5th generation just has it kinda tucked behind a plate around the peg. The cat converter causes most of the heat right there, so removing it would help. Other than that...wear good boots and keep your foot out an extra inch.
