Anybody have a Corbin Seat?

Hi all,
I just got my custom Corbin seat, over two weeks after they told me I would have it, and multiple phone calls to them telling them I needed by next week, then in 5 days, then in 2 days.... each time I was told it was in QC and "going out tomorrow"... very frustrating, and I thought they were supposed to have excellent customer service!! Yes, I lied and I don't REALLY need it until next week, but I didn't want to take any chances.

Anyhooooo... It seems to slide under the forward pegs and it fits the bike pretty well. However, it doesn't seem to snag the lock correctly. It's almost as if the "loop" that engages the lock isn't long enough or something... I hear it click as if it's locked, then it pops up again and it's out of the lock. I've put the original seat back on just to make sure everything on the bike still works properly and the original seat goes on and locks like buttah.

So, I was wondering if anyone else here has a Corbin seat and had any similar experience with theirs. I can and will ride with it the way it is, and if I don't get it resolved in the next week or so, I will go to the Corbin factory on my ride through CA to get their take on it... but, obviously, I'd prefer to have it actually working properly.

I've sat on it in my garage for a while, and it feels like it will be heaven for my butt on long rides, so I'm excited about that... just gotta get it working properly.

I have one on my bike & it fits like the factory one. I sit it on there & it either just drops in & locks or a little bump with the palm of my hand & it locks right in. I dont have grab handles so I can reach under the seat & tug pretty hard & it never comes out.

I have had a few and this one I had to take apart and grind down the fiberglass to go around the givi brackets. You can look under the seat and see if there are some rubber bumpers that can be tighten down some more. Try to see where it is hitting not letting it snap into place. Maybe something as simple as a tool kit in the way? Once you know what is keeping it up you can go from there. PS why did you choose Corbin and not Sargent?

Well, I went back out to the garage and gave it some muscle. I pushed down HARD with my left hand and used my right hand under the tail pipe for leverage... and I just squeezed hard. It finally caught and stayed. So, I'm leaving it that way for now. Tomorrow I'll play more with seeing what could actually be causing the issue...

Having not seen a Corbin seat up close I can only speculate, but you'll quite likely find that there is some sort of rubber mounting block that will compress with time, and it'll be easier as time goes on to remove and refit the seat. Please let us know how it turns out...

My Corbin has latched easier over time. I went to Holister to have it made and it was well worth the trip. If it isn't too far off of your path check it out.

Anyhow, if they are similar the rubber stoppers do compress a bit over time and the latching does get easier. Now if it just doesn't go I would check to see where the latch is with regard to the catch, it may need a slight adjustment.

Hey VFRC, I sat on both corbin and sargant seat while I was in SLO. I like the Sargant much better it feel little softer and lower. Maybe just me, However the owner of the Corbin seat does complaint about the seat is not fit well especially with the rear cover. Just my 2cents. Enjoy your new seat, You do need them on the long trip.

The original rubber bumpers on my Corbin (5th gen) did compress over time, but they also started splitting and falling off. Corbin sent me new ones and they are much beefier, but I don't think they will compress or get any softer.

If over time yours does not get easier to latch, you may consider sanding down the bumpers slightly to make it easier.

I don't know that the seat latch is designed to retain a lot of upwards pressure, but maybe it's fine - I'm no engineer. The latch mechanism on my 5th gen came apart on a 900 mile trip and I had to re-assemble it with Loctite when I got home.

I have a Corbin on my bike that I bought when I got the bike that has a nasty problem of not staying latched. It will close but if I hit a bump it can come lose. I have played with it and noticed that if the seat moves a little to either side is when it will come lose. I put some washers under the bolt next to the latch on the seat to help guide it in the right place but it still happens sometimes. It is easier to just push it back down though.

I have the same issue with it not latching. It stays down and doesnt pop up but does not lock into place. Tried adjusting etc with NO LUCK. Corbin never answered back when I emailed them.

Mine was a pain at first, but it is somewhat better now. Takes 2 or 3 good tries sometimes, and pushing a bit to the back as well, before it will lock in. Had mine on for almost a year now. It's sounds like a good few owners get them to fit, but they are a little too tight.

Quality and Comfort - Awesome! Puts you up a smidge taller than the stocker, it's a pound or so heavier then the orignal, but I can ride all day without getting sore. Never tried the Sargent, but I am happy enough with the Corbin not to jump ship.

Thanks all for your thoughts... I got really concerned when, after riding with my buddies over the weekend, one of them got it to latch really tight... we tugged and pulled and pushed and banged and couldn't get it to unlatch, so we took off riding. After about 10 minutes I hit a bump and it came undone. I personally feel theis is very unsafe, especially since many of the roads I ride on are quite bumpy and I can spend considerable time out of the seat. I'd be afraid to ride that way if the seat was loose or there was a chance of it coming loose. And, I don't think it's safe for me to ride on bumpy while sitting ON the seat. No fun.

It also doesn't work with my Luggage Locker Seat Sak, so I called Corbin today and they are getting approval to authorize a return for me. I'll call them again tomorrow to see if they received approval.

I'm the kind of person that doesn't like to mess with stuff... either it works or it doesn't... and this particular seat doesn't work on my bike. On a more positive note, I'm getting a Sargent and that should be here soon!

30 seconds with a razor knife would fix the problem. Shave 1 mm off of the rubber bumpers and you'd be set.

I havent sat on a Sargent but I've sat on my Corbin for >1000kms per day multiple times and its stellar.

I shaved down the bumpers and it still would not latch, just like your problem it clicked but not latch. I bought a round "rat tail" file and carefully filed inside the steel loop until it latched easily.

I have a Corbin and had the same problem. I had to take off the seat cowel, sit on the passenger portion and grab the hand rails. I then pressed my butt down to get it to latch.
I then just left it alone and it seems to have adjusted itself......no more problems.....love the seat.

I think if you spend that much money on a "custom" seat you shouldn't have to pull out a knife and start cutting stuff: It should fit perfectly the first time. I've sat on both the Corbin and the Sargent. After listening to all of the comments about both seats it made it really easy for me to choose which one i put on my bike. The Sargent seat has given me over 4,000 miles of great comfort and still looks great. I pulled it out of the box and it just clicked into place with no fuss. Even the rear cowl squeezed on without too much issue. I know the SeatSak fits because I've seen another rider with one. I think you've made a good choice going with the Sargent and not messing with the Corbin and the modifications just to make it work.

I can't say how many times I've had to modify something to get it to work. Nothing goes as easy as it says! Micron Exhaust, Motad Header, even the K&N Filters - everything has it's minor issues.
