reupholster stock seat?
Good morning all, I have got a quater size rip in my seat and it has been there since I bought the bike in may. Seeing this rip everyday is like getting hit in the gut.
I must fix this soon! I have looked high and low for a good deal on a corbin or sargeant seat but I'm having no luck. Yesterday I took my seat to the local upholstery guy and he said he would use a very high quality material and run double stiching down the ridges of the seat. Unfortunately he wants $125. I actually don't have a problem with my stock seat as far as being comfortable and from what I have seen the stock seat redone would actually look better than the after market seats I have seen. So my problem is I can't decide if it's worth redoing my stock seat or if I should hold out for a corbin/sargeant. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appriciated thanks. |

You could get it redone probably for around $100.00 but if you like the stock look I would see about Flames seat...

I have thought the same thing...I am a cheap bastage and do not want to pay 300+ for a seat.
My idea was to get some good quality pleather and one of the memory foam pillows. Trim the pillow to fit my butt and have my wife help with the pleather dsign. Putting it all back on the seat pan would require nothing more than a staple gun. I have not done this yet because it is my only seat and cannot afford to screw it up.

I re-did my stock seat with a really high quality carbon-look Vinyl - $14.95
I took it to a shop near work, and they did an amazing job. I've stretched Vinyl before, but they did the double-stitching and bump pad for the cowl for $100. so I couldnt pass it up. With the look and durability I got for $114.95 vs. $350+ for the 3rd Gen Corbin (not including Bump Pad) It was the only way to go in my opinion!

my .02... If you are going to spend 100+ then add whatever extra it takes and get a corbin or sargent IF you ride more than 100 miles at a time. If you plan on touring at all or the like, the difference will be noticeable. If you have no problem doing 100+ miles on the stock seat then, just buy one from numerous folks who have them because they bought a corbin or sargent. There are lots of US out there. I'm not selling mine because I'm one of those people that thinks I may come up with a use for everything given enough time... I personally have ridden a stock, corbin, and sargent, and think that both the aftermarket seats are vast improvements...

I took the seat down and had the guy do it. The seat turned out awesome and he lowered his price to a 100 without me saying a word. |

Thanks, it feels good and is the same hight. It is a little more slippery than the stock cover but not much.

You didn't do anything to the padding itself so the cowl still fits well?

Actually the cowl fits better now because the seat is streched tighter.
