Remove Center Stand

Not having a manual for this bike, do you know what the procedure for removing the center stand would be on the 1999 VFR800? I understand on newer models that an exhaust pipe has to be removed. Also, about how much does the center stand on that bike weigh. Would be interested in any comments about doing this, and other "diet" mods for the bike to reduce overall weight.

I just put my center stand back on. It was a pain in the ass without it. My three year old likes to "ride" my bike while in the garage. On the side stand I was always worried it would fall and scratch the bike . . . oh, and hurt the kid.

I am guessing it weighs about ~8lbs. You do have to pull the exhaust to get it off (or on). Not too tough, just kind of a drag.

HUH? you want it off not! I wouldn't unless you're using the bike for a track bike. even then the center stand comes in way to handy,, lol, should see some of the guys I ride with when I pop mine up, they're going HUH? yea thats right i can do that, you can't? hahaha also a biggie for chain adjustments IMO leave it where it is... could way much maybe 4 lbs. should be fairly easy to get off and on, but why bother I say.

The center stand will make removing the rear wheel easier than if you did not have it on there. I presume there will some meaintenance you will do yourself, like changing the brake pads. It's easire to do wihtthe wheel off. Also, since the stand is close to the ground its weight is not noticed, imo. According to the service manual, at least for 90- 90 models (chec klocal manuals near you), the rear wheel should be on the ground for adjsuting the chain. But in all I guess that is a personal preference.

I removed mine and purchased a " Pit Bull" rear wheel stand. I'm very happy with my decision. I have a pic of the stand if you want to check it out.
