Checking chain tension
Hello fellow VFR's. Acceptable slack in the chain of my '06 should be between 1" and 1 3/8" according to the owner's manual. It also suggests that the tension be checked every 500 miles.
When I push from the bottom up, my chain travels no more than an inch before it contacts the bottom of the swingarm. The illustration in the manual does not show the proximity of the swingarm when trying to visually inspect chain tension. What's up with that? My bike is a toddler with only 850 miles. Thanks, Gunzer

Howdy,
I keep mine adjusted so as it will touch the swing arm, on the bottom, when forced. The point I check is the middle of the chain, directly between the sprockets. Hope this helps. Mac |

I would keep it at the low end of that - 1 3/8" seems too much. I know the manual say that, but Honda recommends 90w gear oil on the chain too.
