I competed in the world field archery championships at Plitvice Lakes a few years ago- I had no idea Croatia was such a beautiful place! Took a tour of Zagreb on the way out, fine old city.

I am back every couple of years since for a World Cup event in Porec. Nice country and people. Would love to take a cycle tour of it.

My entire family migrated from Croatia in the late 1940's/early 1950's.
As a kid, it was fun hearing all of the stories from the "old country". Croatia sounds like a beautiful country. I hope to visit someday. Thanks for sharing your pictures with all of us.

The World Championship I competed in was in 2004, 9 years after the end of your civil war- a few buildings on the route from Zagreb to Plitvice (which is about 17 miles from Bosnia) still showed the effects of the war, .50 caliber holes in structures, blown out buildings. My team (USA) and that of GBR had 125 plainclothes police accompanying us for protection, but there was no problem at all. Our destination and competition venue was actually the very spot where the war started, but there was no sign of it in the park itself.

But the natural beauty of Plitvice and much of the rest of the Croatian countryside was incredible and the volunteers friendly and hard-working. Two of my teammates were eliminated early in the competition and took off for the beaches on the Adriatic. When I saw the photos I was almost jealous ;)

Now every other year there is an archery World Cup event in Porec, not far from Trieste Italy. The next one is this spring and if you would like to come watch I will arrange for you to be my special guests in the audience for the finals (which are always sold out).

I'm thinking of renting a bike in Milan and spending a few days touring after the competition.

The country is very beautiful.

Where were you in July 1995 when about 7000 people were murdered at Srebrenica??
if you know anyone involved in that they should be in the Hague on trial for war crimes!!
sorrry, but mass murder isn't easy to forget.

Srebrenica is in Bosnia and Herzegovina, that is another country. Mass murder in Srebrenica done Serbian, they also done crime in Croatia on Ovcara. If you watch pictures, you can see destoyed tower in Vukovar, the heroic city, wich is total destroyed in war.

Squirrelman,

Yeah, war criminals are deserving of what they get.

But, remember, it's the winners who decide who the criminals are in any war- we roasted more than 100,000 people alive in Tokyo in one firebomb raid over two hours- and the planners of that action acknowledged that if we had lost that war, they would have been convicted of atrocities. We hanged our share of German and Japanese leaders- 10 German and 7 Japanese war criminals were convicted and hanged after the war.

Fact is, civilization is but a thin veneer over our animalistic nature.

Riding our VFR's is proof of our desire to be more civilized!

....does that comment bring this topic back into alignment with the forum goals?

Very true .......enough.

Sorry,I was well out of order and was spinning up in neutral.

Excessive imbibation was also to blame.

I'd much rather discuss tyres, trips, carbs, and gadgets anyway.......

Where's your nearest Honda dealer??

Is that the one with the red VFR at the base of a concrete structure? I was trying to figure out what it is.

And what about the
