Mandein's 1986 VFR700F Interceptor

This is my buddies VFR we just finished fixing up. Incredibly, it has 98,000 miles on it!!! We are working on getting some windscreens made, does anyone want one?

He is still hacking away at the plethora of cosmetic projects on his old girl, but she's coming along nicely... Here's a breakdown of current mods completed...

• Laser 4-into-1 race exhaust (made in the Netherlands - Great Pipe!)
• Dynojet stage III jetting kit carb rebuild
• K&N Air filter in highly modified (read: cut open) airbox
• Pirelli Sport Demon tires
• EBC Double H brake pads up front
• New custom made 48-tooth rear sprocket (along with new front sprocket and chain, just to complete the drive train)
• Cruise Control
• Progressive Suspension fork springs
• Front end lowered 1.5 inches
• Fan armature turn and rebuild
• Smog BS disappearance (not sure what happened, it just fell off and got lost...)
• New horn (friggin trumpet would be more accurate!)
• Center stand removed
• Wheels: Repainted hubs Navy Blue (to match bike's graphics) and polished out the hoops
• Seat cowl paint touch up and fresh clear-coat
• Polished gas-cap
• Flush-mounted front turn signals w/ running lights (lost the "bricks")
• Rear fender hacked off and discarded
• Rear turn signals replaced by smaller, less floppy versions (lost those bricks too)
• Approx 20+ pounds of "junk" removed (7 lbs from exhaust swap alone!!!)

Many, many, many, many hours of cleaning 20 years worth of WD-40 and road grime buildup off of every part of the bike.


Still turns heads and tight corners!

He is in Southern Calif, but that is great that there is yet another survivor out there!

Beautiful. I love the original colors. Nothing compares to an '86 in this condition. I am working toward the same result with mine. 31000 miles and abused until I 'saved' it. I would be interested in a windscreen. Are you getting original smoke or colored. I would love to get a blue or red one. What size rear tire is the Pirelli and how does that pipe sound? Loud, throaty ro what. I have a 4 into one Kerker that is a little 'tinney'.(is that a word). I would like a little more deep throaty sound. Once again, Very Nice Work!

If we can get the mold up and running I would think any color material is possible and I will keep that in mind for you! Otherwise, medium smoke.

What size rear tire is the Pirelli

The rear is a 140/70-18 Sport Demon, (the profile might be 60 i forget but its the only 140 of this tire) it fits in there just fine with no rubbing and keeps alot of rubber on the road when leaned over due to fatter tire on not-fatter wheel!

...and how does that pipe sound? Loud, throaty ro what. I have a 4 into one Kerker that is a little 'tinney'.(is that a word). I would like a little more deep throaty sound. Once again, Very Nice Work!

The pipe sounds great! We got the RACE version, and it is not too loud. It has a nice throaty idle and when you blip the gas it has kind of a growly bark. When you blaze by at near red line, the pipe and the modified airbox Roar together! It sounds just like a Moto GP bike! There is no sound like the V4 let me tell ya.

Installing the pipe was pretty easy, but I suggest having a friend help you. You will need a rubber mallet as you have to get all four stock downpipes into the 4 into 1 pipe, it's easy, but you would not want to knock your bike off the stand wrestling with it!

It uses Stock Down Pipes, so it is sort of a half-system, but there would be no point of replacing the headpipes anyway - they all go the same place in aftermarket systems. All of what you can see is polished, and it is a GREAT appearance boost to have that piping shiny! The can comes with a stick on label for the brand, but they leave it up to you if you want to use it or not.

Oh it just means we shortened up how far down the rear black plastic fender hangs. We took it up to the rest of the body work, just under the license plate mount.
