Rocket Locker Elite Seat-Sak for the Honda VFR

Every once in a while you come across a product or idea that is just so good, yet so simple that you say to yourself, "why didn't I think of that!" The Rocket Locker is one of those products. The Rocket Locker is not just another tail bag. It is the only tail bag that I know of that is locked to your bike using the stock seat locking mechanism. Yes, its a great idea, and yes, there are several patents protecting the idea. :-) You can leave it on your bike and not have to worry about it. No one can take it off the bike without completely cutting and ruining the bag. It can never fall off at speed or under any conditions.

Most of you are painfully aware that our beloved VFR comes up a little short in the storage area. Hell, even the 929 has a nice under seat trunk. Sure you can use a tank bag, but you better make sure you take it with you when you leave your bike in a parking lot, or you may find that someone else thinks it would look better on their bike. There are a several tail trunks on the market, but all the ones I have tried tend to move around a little at speed or flap, and come loose. I never feel safe with my valuables in a strap on tail trunk. I find that I am constantly reaching back to make sure it is still there.

Leslie Alderman, the developer of the Rocket Locker, sent me an email a while back and asked me if I thought that VFR owners would be interested in a product like this. I told them that I thought they would be and he went to work on his prototype. A couple of weeks ago he finished the full production version and asked me if I would take a look at his Rocket Locker for the VFR, and tell him what I thought and write a little something on the website. I told him I would be happy to and last week it arrived!

I was immediately impressed with the quality of this hand crafted in the USA tail-bag. It is made of the tough DuPoint Cordura 1000 deneir. All the zippers are high quality and have nice zipper pulls on each. There are 2 pockets on each side and another in the back. The main center pocket is surprisingly large, even though from the outside it looks quite compact. Each of the pockets come with 2 zipper pulls, allowing the use of a luggage lock effectively locking closed the pockets to protect your valuables.

Installation takes just seconds. Remove your seat, and slide it over the back of the seat. Pull the velcro flaps across each other under the seat, making it fit snug. Engage the clips of the cinch strap under the seat and pull the strap tight. Then replace and lock your seat and your ready to go. It is locked and secure! Due to the built in adjustability, I tested and found it would fit on the stock seats, Sargent seats, and Corbin seats for the VFR800 and VFR750.

Once on the road, you hardly know it is there. It is designed to follow the shape of your seat so that it does not catch the wind. I tested it at triple digits and it does not flap or move around. It fits snug and stays put. I am constantly surprised at how much I can fit in there. It looks so nice and compact from the outside yet it is huge on the inside. My guess is that it will hold close to 30 liters. Another nice feature is that it has outer cinch straps that allow you to compress its height when you have a small load or it is empty. It also has very nice styling with your choice of red/black, yellow/black, silver/black or all black. It has 3m reflective patches on it also that really reflect the lights from the car behind you.

I admire Leslie for taking his simple ideal and spending his life savings to start this company. Rocket Locker is a small company that is just starting out, and he has to compete with all the big boys in the motorcycle luggage industry. Rocket Locker definitely has a better product than anything coming out of the big companies, and the pricing is competitive. They have a very impressive Lifetime Warranty and obviously stand behind there workmanship. I highly endorse this product and I am confident that you will be happy with it and the personal service you will get from Leslie and Rocket Locker. I will be contacting Leslie about purchasing this review unit for myself. I can not see ever using a regular strap on trunk again.

I just received my new Seat Sak today. Great looking bag and well made. Looks like it will hold 4-5 days of clothes. Can't wait to try it out. Heading out in a couple of weeks on a 5 day road trip.

I have had my Rocket-Locker for about three years now. It eally is great. Plenty of room,the pockets are great, good quality as well as easy to put on and take off of my VFR. I would reccomend it to anyone looking for a great piece of VFR luggage

I just got my Elite Seat Sack on monday. Leslie of luggage locker rushed me the bag since I needed it quickly but had ordered it before I realized they MAKE the bag FOR YOU when you order it!
I was worried that I wouldnt have it in time, I called them up, and they were terrific about it, reassured me that they would get right on it, and sure enough, probably 5 days later, I had the bag in my hands!
The workmanship is terrific, I got it in the waterproof material, it stores a bunch (even rockclimbing gear!), doesnt flap around at speed, feels SUPER secure, and the lock-down mechanism is very well made.
As an engineer myself, I know a good design when I see one. For the money, this seat bag is a no brainer!

I've had one for a year and they are awesome! Don't even know its there, carries a pile.
I use it more now than the tank bag.

I have the Icon Urban tank bag and just made a little cable with a tiny padlock to put through the handle of the bag and up around the handlebars. I lock it up when going into stores and it hasn't been taken yet. I also have another little padlock to lock the zippers together so no one can get into it either.

I guess if someone really wanted it, they could cut the handle and take, but it is enough to deter them. I have thought about running a cable from inside the bag and up through handle to prevent this.

You can make whatever size cables you want from supplies at Ace hardware. You just get the length of cable you want/need and the little aluminum clamps, make a loop at each end put the little clamps on and smash them with a hammer. Cost: about $2.00.

Looks like a good product. If I didnt already have the ventura pack I might try it. It's kinda variation of a theme - I have been using fanny packs for years strapped around the rear seat for quick access storage.
Stuff like cell phone, sunglasses, maps, mini spray bottle for windshield cleaning. The one from Aerostitch seems to be the perfect size.
I'll shoot a photo if anybody wants.
