    Performance upgrades...????

    So, can we list all the performance upgrades again? I saw a wonderful list at one point with all Gen 6 performance tips. I would like to see another list with all upgrades available (whether home made or paid for) they make for a great wish list or wanna-do to the bike. I'll gladly start.

    1. Go +2 on rear sprocket
    2. Performance exhaust
    3. PCIII/Fuel injector maps
    4. KandN/Air filter
    5. PAIR block off (I still dont know exactly how or if this works well)
    6. 02 Sensors (again, I dont know much about this either)

    It also gives me something to print and hang up. (motivation to work more to pay for these items) So....Lets GO!! and Thanks...

    Your number one upgrade should be suspension!

    Then move to the power commanders and such. Althought the PAIR valve thing is cheap or seems so.

    Anyway, check out PumaCat's post on 6th gen Ohlins shock install!

    so far for mine:

    airbox flapper mod
    Staintune Exhaust
    PC-III (I havn't installed the O2 plugs yet)

    more important than the "performance" was the comfort (for me)
    the ability to stay in the saddle for longer

    Honda Hard bags
    Sargent Seat
    Puge Double Bubble
    Buell lowering pegs (not installed yet)
    Heli-Bars (waiting for delivery)

    next purchase will probably be a set of Pilot Roat 2's




    btw:
    I'm still not sure what the "PAIR block off" will do for the bike

    I'd like to hear more about what that +2 does on the rear sprocket. I assume it basically lowers the gearing and gives the bike more torque off the line, but it's also going to require quicker shifting and will lower top speed. Does anyone have some metrics around what that does to shift speeds and top speed overall?

    You can see the list of changes I made so far in my sig below. I'm getting ready to do the K&N Filter upgrade sometime in the next few weeks.

    The "pair valve" or "air valve" mod will do nothing for performance othen than shave a little weight which in the grand scheme of things is too minute to make much of a difference.

    The O2 elims are essential if using the power commander or else the adjustments made by the power commander are being changed by the input of the O2s.

    I have owned some very fast bikes. '99R1, '07 R1 (terrible street bike-sold it after 6 weeks), '02 hayabusa. Now here's the catch, I promimsed myself my next bike I buy I won't want to get off of after 30 minutes and heres the second catch...I don't want to bore myself...have narrowed it down to a ZX14 or a VFR-comments? opinions? I care only about acceleration 0-80 mph...thanks

    Two differnt bikes, as much as you like speed I would consider the ZX14, but since you are thinking "Sport Tourer" hence the VFR, than might I sugges the C14. I owned one for about 4 months and must say it was by far the fastest, most powerful bike I have ever owned, plus it can munch the miles with great comfort. Can't hold a candle to the VFR for carving corners though, that is why I went with less speed with lighter and better handling.

    Going +2 in the rear will change your gear ratio to 2.8125 (104.7% of stock). You'll experience faster acceleration due to the mechanical advantage. If you decide to do this, be careful because the lower gearing will turn your bike into a wheelie machine.

    Now the downside: It's gonna throw you speedometer off even more (this can be corrected with a speedohealer, though.) The biggest gripe I've heard from people that lowered their gear ratio is their bike is now running at higher RPMs at highway speed. I've heard a number of them say they were always looking for the sixth gear that wasn't there anymore. In other words, 6th gear now felt like 5th gear.

    If you want to experiment with gearing, start by leaving the rear sprocket alone and going -1 on the front sprocket (it's less expensive and easier to make the swap, too.) Keeping the stock rear sprocket and going -1 up front will change your gear ratio to 2.8667 (106.7% of stock.) And yes, you'll still be dealing with the speedometer and higher RPM issues. A problem with going -1 up front that you won't have with going +1 or +2 in the rear, is your chain is going to wear out faster.

    Whatever you decide, best of luck to you.
