bike is an '86 VFR700F, 19K miles on it. When I pulled the rear wheel to inspect everything in prep for a new chain/sprocket, I found that the one of the 5 rubber dampeners between the sprocket carrier and wheel was split where it connects its two halves together. $11 each from either bike bandit or power sports pro.

Should I just replace all 5, since I have it open and apart, or just the one that's split, or are they likely to be just fine (it's just the little piece that keeps it aligned correctly until you assemble the carrier into the wheel). At 20yo, I figure they're a bit harder than stock, but they seemed to be in good condition, otherwise.

    Any wisdom?

I'd replace them all. They're all the same age and they get some abuse everytime you get on or off the throttle. They actually take all the load from the sprocket carrier and transfer it to the rear wheel hub.

That's what I was thinking, since they transfer all the torque, just replacing one is probably not a good idea...

Wow, this is an old thread, but I need some help. I want to replace my rear wheel dampeners but cannot find them anywhere. Does anyone have a source for these?

Saw a bunch on eBay, you will need to cross reference what they have. I thought my extra '83 dampers could help, but different.

On this side of the Atlantic we refer to them as the cush drive.

The fractured crossover tab in OP is NO PROBLEM !! Just stuff it in place and shove it together. :congratulatory:

If they are compacted you can keep them going indefinitely by stuffing bits of old inner tube down the sides.
