I got a little over 50 MPG a couple times on purty darn good
conditions riding my Y2k viffer up from PDX to Port Townsend.
    Taking it easy-ish.
Maybe I could squeeze a couple more MPG's out of it with a tail wind
or downhill or riding at the Speed (yawn) limit.
But 50-ish is about as good as it gets for me on the VFR.

Now, I see some super dooper econo Vespa-like critters getting like
    60 MPG.
    pfffffft.

    Does not equate.

    Vespa-thing = 150cc; maybe 250cc.....no comprende.

    Wouldntcha expect 150mpg or so?

    So here's the question..........questions.

What's the best mileage you have ever figgered?
What machine was this that you were riding to kill so few dinosaurs?
    Any extenuating circumstances?

Please form your answers in a fashion that will make justifying a new
(another one?) ride less dificult.

    TIA...

Best mpg in a car was a consistant 42mpg in my 98 civic HX

Best on my bone stock 07 VFR is 38-40 during commute. best single tank as 42, but that has happened once and I've chalked it up to measurement error, or bad math.

sidecases cost me 1 or 2mpg due to additional frontal area. Topcase seems "free"

best I have calc'd is on the VFR at just over 40 but that is rare for me. I'm usually around 35. I have heard that the ninja 250 can get around 75 but I have ridden my wife's enough to even do a fuel calc on it. I'll have to get all the kinks worked out of the carbs before it would be a fair test, though...

My 1979 CM185T got about 80 mpg if I remember right.
Back when gas was $0.90 a gallon ('85) about a penny a mile was beautiful for my first commuting summer job! Too bad I couldn't hold higway speeds on anything with increasing grade.

In mine 93, I got 50 mpg until I went +2 in the back, then it droped to mid 40's. I get about 50 mpg on my R6s as long as it's just me and no passenger.

I almost always get in the upper 40's on my 02 VFR, and it is not uncommon for me to get 50. If I run the bike extremely hard I have seen about 39 mpg, but that is the lowest.

I average about 42 mpg on my 04 vfr. Freeway runs, cruising at 80, about 45 mpg, with hard bags, 43 mpg. I had an 06 Honda 599, got about 45 mpg average and 50-55 mpg on freeway rides. Maybe if I'd learn to cruise at 65 on freeway runs, I could get close to 50 mpg. Back road riding fast, worst I've seen is 35 mpg. My old 99 xr650l, got about 40 mpg no matter what i was doing. But bike was no where near stock; bored, high comp. piston, header, full exhaust, Edelbrock pumper carb, cam, and a few other goodies. But overall, if I even got in the low 30's for milage, I'd be happy. Considering my truck gets about 12/15 mpg. But it just sits in the driveway now that I have a bike.

Best I saw was 48 point something. Quick, but reasonable commuting...
I plan low to mid 40's, 38-40 for serious riding. ;)
