hi i obtained a spare muffler for my vfr which i have cut the end caps off and removed the complete baffle units from each end can in one, then had the end caps tig welded back on.

this seems quite a common practice on the vfr's but i have a some questions before i reassemble and run the bike

    1. does gutting the rear cans alter the fuel mixture enough to cause damage to the engine

    2. will the bike need to go on a dyno to check for over rich/lean mixture

    3. if it does run over lean/rich is the power commander III with custom map the only option of getting the engine to run right without having to put the original back muffler section back on

cheers for any advice / views

Helllo and welcome to the forum. Where are you located?

    1. No.

    2. No.

    3. Not really necessary (well, depending on how anal that you are) for just a gut job. The bike will compensate for your slight exhaust mod. No need to do anything. If you replaced the full system (motard headers and rear exhaust) then I would look at a PC3 and custom mapping.

Also the cat is the most restrictive part of the system.
you have not gotten a great deal of performace increase out of the bike. but it sounds sweet.

I just cut some of the baffles out of mine. Much throatier sound for less than $10 in cutting wheels for the Dremel tool. I was gonna take pics, but didn't. Next time I take the exhaust off, I will. Love the sound though. Not too loud. No change in performance from what I can tell.
