A friend of mine sent me pics of a bike he saw for sale. He/they don't know much about it. He's selling it as a parts bike.

    Is this indeed a VF1000R?
If so can anyone tell what year?

I'll post more info...if I can get any.

Have them grab a pic of the vin tag. That will tell you much more.

From what i can see it does appear to be, the forks are the right color (red on r)
the frame is a R according to foot pegs instruments and fairing stay appear to be r model .The big thing is the engine ,R is a 5 speed F is a 6 speed and the trans are reversed from one another .If it has had a F motor put in it with these pegs and shifter it will have gp shifting set up on it .Things to look for are front axle drops out bottom not pulled out the side ,rear caliper is mounted on bottom of swing arm and the # of gears in trans .wheels are also Rs. hope this info helps you out .

I called the owner this morning. He said it truly is a 100R...an 85 model. He said it needs a fuel pump and the rear shock is trash (no dampening) but the seat and rear cowl is in great shape.
The bad part of the deal...the fairing was stolen a few years ago and he got bummed out and never did anything else w/it.
If in fact all the front bodywork is missing...it'll be $4K to get all the parts (dealer) to reassemble it. My WI contact will save me 40%, but that is still a crap load of money to put into an old bike.

The bike is reasonably cheap, and mechanically sound.
What do these models go for if in decent condition?????
I read where someone here just picked up a clean 86 1000R, but no price was listed in the thread.

Thanks for the advice. I just think these are cool bikes....from my era.

$2500-$3500 if in very clean condition. Body work is not available from Honda anymore. Check eBay, you can probably put a decent set together for under $1K.

BTW, the F bikes were also 5 speed with standard shift. Main difference was cam chains vs. gears and a little bit lower compression.

I thought for the $800 asking price it would be a good idea to pick it up. Even if it sat for several years while scrounging parts...it would eventually make a nice bike.
I haven't seen it in person, so ther's no telling how good/trashed it is.
Does the R model have geared cams? Or the K?
How is the power output? I won't ask about dandling....I know these are hhheeeaaavvvyyy.

The R has the gear driven cams. I think it's about 122hp, the F was about 115hp. They can be made to handle:

Hmm seems to be an 85, single head light. but whats interesting is the forks, some one has been tinkering, those aren't stock, nor the brakes. even the swing arm looks different as well as the wheels, I'm saying good score if you have it bought. if not, whats ya waiting for?

Thanks, I have a thread over on VFRD, Vf1000r Rebuild - VFRD.

RC51 forks, painted stock swingarm and frame. Rear wheel is from a 600F3. I can't take credit for the ideas, just the work, some others have blazed the trail for me.
