do I get the rear wheel off the bike safely? Surely some of you guys have devised some simple method to do this? Let's hear em! Oh, I have a 91 if that changes anything. Also, anywhere other than honda to get a center stand for my bike, in case that's the only way??

    Thanks in advance.

I've used a dirt bike stand before, but it was a little Ninja and not a VFR.

Don't try it without a stand. You'll kick yourself when it falls over...

In a pinch a floor jack and 2-3 heavy duty tiedown straps will work. Lots of stands that are not spring loaded centerstands out there.

If you are removing your rear wheel, maybe just to be on the safe side, break the lugnuts and the can/header bolts loose first.

We are talking a 91 here. Other years may be not so easy.

I've taken the motor out of my vf500 5 or 6 times without a centerstand or jack or anything but a floor jack and some rope so it doesnt fall over :)

I took the wheel off by jacking it up with a floor jack and putting a block of wood under the frame where the swing arm and the frame meet. I lowered the jack so that the weight of the bike was square on the block of wood and it balanced nicely.

I looked at the '91's frame and i'm pretty sure it would work. you'll have to take off the plastics and exhaust tho

Thanks for all the answers. I do have a question regarding the stands......if these single swingarm stands work by supporting the bike with a pin through the hollow axle, the wheel will just slide off and the axle with the bike stays put? I was thinking the axle would go with the wheel.
