    Hi,

First of all, I'm french, so excuse me for my bad english!!
Then, this VFR is my first bike, and i'm not very aware of bike mechanics...

Here is my problem: I bought a 92 VFR750 about a month ago with around 31000miles on it.
It was working fine, but after a week or 2, it broke down after a 45 minutes ride.
I took it to a mechanic who first replaced the sprk plugs and cleaned the air filter.
But the problem appeared again. So he replaced the R/R...
    Still the same problem!!
Then he changed the stator, and that didn't change anything either.

It seems, from what I understood that the battery is charging fine when the bike is cold, but it stops charging when the bike is getting hot.

Does someone have any idea on where this problem could come from?
And any suggestions to fix it???

    Thank you in advance :)

The wiring of the charging system would be the next place I would check. These bikes are notorious for burning up the connection between the charging wiring and the R/R. If it has too high a resistance (because the wiring is cooked), it won't carry the correct voltage.

    Bonne chance!

I'd get your battery checked, you replaced everything else.

Tell me though, does your mechanic actually do any testing or just replace on a hunch? I say that because there are actual easy tests to tell if a stator is bad, or an R/R unit isn't charging. But first you must have a good battery or the tests mean nothing.

    the battery is fine... 12.8V
R/R wire harness is fine too, any idea how i can check the R/R itself (even if it's almost new!)?
How can I check those pick up/pulse generator coils you are talking about???

    Thanks

Hi guys, and Thanks for your answers!

I checked the battery, it's fine... I started to check the connections and I found out that the connection next to the main fuse is kind of cooked (cf pic)

    Could that explain my problem?
If yes, any idea where I can buy this kind of connector?

    Thank you again, Bastien

    Repairs

The quickest way is to remove plug and replace the ends with female spade ends . You could source a replacement plug from a bone yard off another bike .

See my first post to your question.

    I'd replace that connector.

So you gotta ask the dumb mechanic that changed your alternator and R/R unit and didn't notice your fried main fuseholder, ask him where he got his licence, than tell him you want your money back.

Yes that is the first problem you MUST fix. You can install any good fuseholder in its place, just do NOT go to the same mechanic. A good mechanic doesn't necessarily mean a good electrical specialist in fact it rarely does.

Now you're learning to DIY, keep going. Get a manual and VOM and learn how to test these things yourself. The Honda manual explains exactly how to test the alternator etc.

I removed the plug and replaced the ends with female spade ends as you all advised me and... it works
Now the battery is charging fine either the bike is hot or cold.

Thank you everybody for your help!!!!!!
